Super Garter

June 17th, 2008 @ 9:32 am by Mrs. Flamingo

**Mr. Flamingo you cannot read this post** Stop reading NOW!**

Ever since I started planning our wedding, there was one thing I knew I was going to do for my new-husband-to-be. I wanted to make him a custom garter… you know one to his liking. I’ve mentioned before that Mr. Flamingo is a Superman freak. He’s got everything from vintage comic books to statuettes, but one thing he doesn’t have is a Superman garter so I wanted to make one for him.

I wanted to incorporate a Superman logo in the garter somewhere but could not find any logos small enough. I thought of using a patch or even a bracelet charm, but everything was too expensive and not to my liking. Then it hit me, CROCS charms. I went to shoe stores in my area in search of the Superman logo but there were none in sight. So I decided to check on ebay. Luckily ebayer namesrus was selling one. I made an offer and won it for 1.00$ plus 1.95$ shipping.

via Ebay

Now this is a surprise and he won’t know it until it’s time to go under my dress. I even asked the DJ to cue the Superman theme song. It’s going to be so funny! The Superman logo/colors consists of blue, red and yellow. Since the emblem is red and yellow and I wanted something blue, I used red and blue satin ribbon. It was very easy to make and the CROCS charm was perfect.

Here is my super garter:

Are you going to make a custom garter for your husband-to-be?

That is the cutest thing. I love your idea.
I’m not sure if I even will have a garter yet. We have not discussed that part. But it’s a good idea to make something special that adds a little touch to it though.
If I did I’d probably do something about climbing since he loves bouldering, or something about the outdoors in general.

I’m not usually a garter toss fan, but I am a comic book nerd, and this is a really cool idea. I hope your photographer gets a good shot of Mr. F’s face when he sees it!

We skipped the garter toss, it just wasn’t our thing; but yours is Super cute! I bet your FI is going to be so surprised! I second “mhb” and be sure to get a photo of his face when he sees it!

My FI is a big SD Chargers and Padres fan. So since I’m having two garters, I decided I’d make the toss garter either Chargers or Padres themed - hopefully it’ll make the garter toss a little less painful for the guys since they don’t have to catch something frilly & girly. I ended up going with a Chargers garter:

Chargers Garter

Then for the actual garter toss, we’re planning on involving a mini football that has the garter wrapped around it to “toss” to the guys. A different and fun twist :)

That’s fantastic! I’m making a special garter for my guy as well. Since he’s in the Army, I’m using camouflage material as my garter with some lace. He’ll have a throwaway garter though to give away..but this one is for him to keep.
Are you going to let him toss this garter?

I love the garter it is super cute!!! We are actually attaching things to my garter to have fun with the guest. We are puting a sock, boxers and maybe something else. Just to make it a bit more interesting. I am not sure if I wanted to get a garter thinking that someone may buy me one for the bridal shower.

If he’s that big of a Superman fan, don’t you think he might get the hint from the title of your post? I’d change it before he sees it.

@Kayleigh: Mr.F is french so he doesnt visit english websites let alone wedding related ones. ;) I wrote the warning at the beginning of the post just to be sure… but as soon as the superman theme will go on, hes bound to figure it out - either way.

Thanks though - ;)

Love the garter. I didn’t make a garter but I bought one off the etsy website Garters by Kristen. My fiance loves the Patriots so I found one and I love it. She was very inexpensive and the quality was high. She sent one that we can keep as well as one we can toss.

My fiance is a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan and I decided to suprise him as well with an Ohio State garter :) I also purchased mine from the etsy website Garters by Kristen. I cannot wait to see how excited he gets! I also like the fact that he can keep the one garter and the other one she makes he can toss!

My fiance and I met while attending the same college. So, I am having a toss garter handmade in our school colors with a mini hawk charm (the SJU Hawk is our mascot). I can’t wait for him to see it on our wedding day. He is going to be so surprised!
