The Big Picture

June 18th, 2008 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Pineapple

I have shared with you a lot of the little details of our wedding, but have yet to give any sort of “big picture” visual. What better way to do so than to create one of the ever so popular inspiration boards. (I guess a few of the images below are no longer inspiration since they have been created and/or paid for.)

What kind of look is it? Well, I don’t really know. The colors are fall-ish, but more muted. The style is a bit vintage with the paper roses. The clay flowers, mis-matched attire and cowboy boots make it slightly off-beat. So, I guess it could be called Favinoff. The visual I have been going for is soft, warm and romantic without being too girly.

When I imagined my someday wedding, I always pictured bold modern colors, like teal and brown or all white with punches of raspberry. Once we had our venue selected I realized it wasn’t completely up to me, it was also up to our space. In addition the dress and my rose gold ring influenced many color choices.

Even though it isn’t exactly the color palette of my dreams, I have fallen in love with it. The colors are not a major player in the game, but will hopefully tie everything together in the end.

Did your color palette just kind of happen once you had a few of the major elements selected? Is anyone planning a wedding without a specific color palette in mind?

It’s funny because I thought I knew EXACTLY what I wanted. I even made 2 inspiration boards. But after going dress shopping yesterday for the first time, and finding out my non-traditional FH wants to be traditional and wear a black suit, I dont feel our wardrobe choices would fit into the overall look I THOUGHT i wanted. hmmm.. now I’m wondering if I need to start from scratch.

Your board is quite gorgeous I may add. I love the idea of paper roses and cowboy boots to make it more your own.

I had no idea about colors, and early on in the planning process it didn’t seem to matter. I mean my dress was white/ivory but other than that it didn’t come up until the flowers and invitations. Flowers were easy…invites were tough, but I ended up using a two-color combo that I had done for a wedding shower and bam…we had colors.

A color scheme has to be the most difficult decision in planning a wedding. Ours has changed SO many times (and may again by the end of the day). ;o) I too, had my color choice change from what I thought I would because of the choice of venue and attire. It’s been so hard to put something together that I am completely satisfied with.

I love your inspiration board! I think the copper with hints of grey, cream, and pink really ties well together to create your romantic, ungirly mood! Very creative!

To be honest, I don’t know how I chose my colors. I know blue is one of my favorite colors (besides grey), and I pulled brown out of thin air. The red and orange accents are not only representative of the fall colors that will hopefully color the backdrop of our ceremony, but because red is Mr. Cookie’s favorite color.

I love it and I think it’s going to be absolutely gorgeous!

I also thought I’d have a slough of bright modern colors on my wedding day - but now I’m just down to one: green. I’m still keepin’ it modern tho!

I had no idea what I wanted until I went dress shopping for the first time and a friend had fun trying bridesmaid dresses on. David’s bridal had on display a chocolate dress with a copper sash and I was hit.
It fitted with the fact that our wedding is in the fall and I’m going to work around with with added “golds” which really will be lights and candles and what not.

I love your copper tones! I think it’ll be beautiful–and there’s kind of a sepia-feel, too, since there are some vintagey pieces…

And I think it’s SUCH a good idea to consider the colors already in your venue in terms of color scheme… Otherwise, you’re getting very little bang for your decorating buck, and things can just look a bit forced…
