An Open Letter to My Parents

June 19th, 2008 @ 1:08 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

Mr. J and I planned to say a few words of thank you during our wedding reception, but we were running a bit behind schedule and we didn’t have time. I’m sad about that because I really wanted to publicly thank my parents for everything they did to make it such a beautiful day. Since I couldn’t thank them there, I’m going to thank them here, as publicly as I can:

Mom and Dad, thank you so much for giving me the wedding day of my dreams. I’ve never wanted for anything and I know that is solely because of your hard work, love, and commitment to making my life as wonderful as possible. And I’ve never felt that more strongly than on my wedding day. It was more beautiful than anything I could have ever dreamed for myself and I’m so grateful and blessed to have parents who made that happen for me. All the love and support you provided along the way made the wedding process happy, peaceful, and stress-free — or at least as stress-free as they could be :) Know that I will always appreciate, admire, and love you both so much for your unconditional love and support of my decisions.

I love you both very, very much and thank you for everything. I will never forget how I felt that day and how proud I am to be your daughter.

That is a beautiful letter.

I am also hoping to recognize my parents (plus his parents and other key people) at our reception. I hope we have a chance, but your post reminded me that it’s just as heartfelt when it comes after the wedding.

Beautiful. And thanks for reminding me that I still have a chance to write what I wish I had said to the guests at our wedding.

Forget the wedding stuff … they should be publicly recognized for raising such a sweet, intelligent, and altogether wonderful bee of a daughter! :)
