DIY Wrist Bling

June 19th, 2008 @ 1:39 pm by Mrs. Plumeria

My wedding bracelet was an early DIY project that I didn’t actually make specifically to wear on the big day. I just happened to have a bunch of leftover beads and decided to do something with them, and the resulting piece of jewelry was too sparkly to use for any sort of everyday occasion. It so happened that it ended up matching my dress perfectly, so I went ahead and used it…

I made another for a friend of mine for her wedding, and figured you guys might want to too! :)

You’ll need to get a few different types of beads. I got these from Michael’s.

Decorative silver beads with crystals set in them, assorted (two types shown here):

Plain crystal bicones, in two sizes:

Plus some clear, stretchy beading cord. First things first: begin by threading a decorative silver bead onto the cord. The silver beads are larger than the bicones, and usually have two holes, like so:

You can either tie the ends in a loose knot or tape it to your work surface to keep beads from sliding off the end.

Start adding bicones to each strand, forming a double strand of crystals and alternating bicone sizes and decorative silver beads. The pattern I used here was: silver bead 1, small bicone, large bicone, small bicone, silver bead 2, repeat.

Continue, checking periodically to see if the bracelet is long enough by wrapping it loosely around your wrist, taking care to hold the loose ends of the cord as you do so. The beads should be pretty close around your wrist with a little give, since it is a pull-on style bracelet with no clasp.

Stop adding beads at a point where your next bead to add on in the pattern should be the style of silver bead that you began with. Draw the ends of the cord into the first silver bead and tie a couple of square knots for each set of ends, hiding them neatly in the backside of the bead as shown. Trim ends.

You’re done!

wow, what a great crafty idea with beautiful results! I’m seriously considering doing these as a BM gift now (to go along with all the other goodies I’m already putting together for them! :D )

your bracelet turned out really well. I love to make jewelry, and I am more than consumed with weddings, so naturally, I’ve managed to fuse the two together. I think its great when people venture out to create one of a kind pieces because it’s these details that add to the magic of the special day/occasion. So, if you ever wanna check out some of my pieces, please let me know. I also customize pieces for people as well. You can reach me at jacquella1987@aol.com.

It looks beautiful. I made some bracelets that looks almost exactly like that about two years ago for Christmas gifts (except I made mine with Swarovski crystal beads and swarovski pearls). I have pictures in my Knot bio (KappaUCF20).
