About Mrs. Gingerbread

From the First Mixed CD

June 19th, 2008 @ 3:53 pm by Mrs. Gingerbread

Back when Miss GB 2.0 was first wooing me, she sent me a mixed CD that she named “Warm Bodies & Cool Sheets.” Pretty smooth, eh? ;) Now that we are trying to compile our reception playlist, I went looking for that CD. I found the case that the CD came in, which luckily had the songs listed. Miss GB 2.0 went heavy on the Nina Simone so she’ll definitely have a prominent place in our wedding. The Nina Simone portion of the CD had Do I Move You, Seems Like I’m Never Tired Lovin’ You, In the Dark, & Turn Me On.

Oh and here’s the first song from that CD.

I’m so glad that I’m rediscovering my love for Nina! I really like her version of "Her Comes the Sun."

What are some of the meaningful songs that you’ll be including for your wedding?

I love (Dr.) Nina Simone…she was really talented and highly underrated! I think the most significant song we had (and I had to have it and freaked out when the d.j. couldn’t get it to play - and I preferred standing there until he got it together as opposed to playing another song) was Stars by Kindred. My hubby picked it and I love it because:
1. It’s sung by a husband and wife duo so they know what they’re talking about.
2. It epitomized “us”

Our first dance will be by The 6ths (currently known as Magnetic Fields). Magnetic Fields is one of my favorite groups, and their show was our 3rd date. We have always both been big fans and listened to quite a bit of them over the years.

We’ll definitely be playing “Dancing Daze” by Avett Brothers. We considering using it for our first dance, for obvious reasons. Not only do we both like the song, but it reminds me of a time when we were first dating. I came home from a night class, and FI was just finishing dinner and put on a mix he made for me that included this song. When it came on, he turned to me and said “this song always reminds me of you” - and I said “but this song always reminds me of YOU!” I’m not sure if he would even remember it, but it’s a big memory for me.

I LOVE Nina Simone!!! I play Sinner Man in my car all the time and crank it up. I also love How it Feels to be Free, See Line Woman and Turn Me On. Oh- and Put A Little Sugar in My Bowl. That song is hot!

We are playing a bunch of Wilco at dinner. We are both huge fans and Mr. P made me a mix CD before our second date (he even tied a ribbon around it, which is so not him and is great fodder for teasing) with all Wilco and other bands with Wilco members in them. We have been to so many shows together that we are no longer able to keep track. They don’t have a great first dance love song though, so they will be dinner music instead.

Oh my its so nice to find another Nina Simone fan!! I love sugar in my bowl and actually my friends laugh because i say i’ve “trained him” to um…make references to that song in a suggestive manner ! !hhhaahaha
Yay i love all those songs you will be having at your wedding ! I came thisclose to walking down the aisle to “feelin’ good” and was going to time it perfectly…but we’re having a string quartet so that got nixed. But anyways, yay!
