26 Dresses

I decided to lead this post with that photo above (photoshopped up the wazoo with Jesh de Rox’s textures) because I figured this post would garner some bridezilla accusations, or at least some finger shaking.

I hear Nordstroms has the very best return policy. So much so, that you can buy a pair of shoes, wear them for six months, then return them for a full refund. I ordered 4-5 sizes in each style so there would be a dress-trying-on-partay to be had by my girls. My dress orgies have truly taken on a new low.

I basically brought the store right to my door. Besides, I wouldn’t be able to find all the dresses in everyone’s size at the department store even if I was able to round up all three girls for a day out. When I had asked my girls what size they were, MOH said she was size X, and BM#1 also said she was size X. I knew from our previous adventures in dress shopping that they weren’t the same size, so one of them had to be crazy.

I bought MOH sizes X and Y and I bought BM#1 sizes W and X. Turns out BM#1 was actually size U. BM#2 was a size T, so in the end I had to make another Nordstrom.com purchase to get BM#1’s size. I purchased 26 dresses. Oh and yes, BM#1 is sporting leggings and complimentary airline footies.

ajun08 611I ended up smuggling a dozen dresses across the border for my MOH to try on in the comfort of her own home. I loved this combo. Haha, BM#1, somehow anticipating the occasion, wore her turquoise bra. The turquoise didn’t turn out to be as garish as I thought it would on their fair skin, and pockets! Pockets! Need I say more?

Needless to say, I concluded it was a bit too mod for our venue, and didn’t remotely go with the green flowers I’d already chosen. Perhaps I just have poor planning skills: our invites are currently being inked in navy (no other color looked quite as nice), our flowers are green, and the potential centerpieces I bought are yellow and red.

ajun08 584This dress had gorgeous pleating, but it was an awkwardly long length. Like, mid-calf. But it would have made for an amazing twirling dress.

I’m happy to say I finally decided on a bridesmaid dress (not pictured), after what must have been hundreds that they’d each tried on since last spring. You’ll notice there’s only two gals in the photos - BM#2 is not completely off the hook though - one third of my purchase is in size “T” so she’s going to get her very own runway session with me behind the camera in a couple day’s time. If I was a little more organized, I’d have an order of shoes from zappos for her to sample from, but maybe that’ll just force her to make a second visit.

Gotta say - the “zilla” word isnt what comes to mind! If you made them pay for all these dresses - sure. But i think “goofball crazy fun” seems more fitting than the “b” word. =) Reality is, im betting yall had a lot more fun this way than if you had dragged them from store to store stuffing them into the wrong sizes b/c that location only had size M. And - learn something new and different everyday - i didnt know Nordstroms had a good return policy!

Seriously it sounds like that was a ton more fun than hanging out in the mall all day!!! And alot more sensable… cuz as you know they would have found about 50 more dresses to try on that had nothing to do with your wedding! hahahaha

I did the same thing to outfit my sister/MOH, flower girl, and mom for the wedding. I highly recommend it! We found the perfect clothes for everyone. I even ordered the next size up in my flower girl’s outfit as backup in case she grows more before the big day…and because it’s Nordstrom, I know I won’t have any problems returning whatever we didn’t wear after the wedding!

I work at Nordstrom, and we don’t technically have a return policy. So it means it is left up to the discretion of the store. Unworn, unwashed merchandise with tags still attached or receipts and card used present make your return go much faster.

What a great idea! I love the yellow dress…I think yellow will be big in 2009!

I, too, work at Nordstrom and agree with everything annieBelle said.

though, if you’re going to go this route… PLEASE order from .com (returning to .com would also be so so kind) so it doesn’t screw up someone’s numbers for the day. it would be so disappointing to walk into work with thousands of dollars in returns for no REAL reason.

aside from Nordy talk, it sounds like you had the most amazing time!! i love that combo, the blue dress with pockets is superb!

I actually LOVE the black dress, but I’m also in my 30s now and the longer length seems more fitting for me. Your maids are too adorable! It seems that you guys could pull of the mod thing with all different wedding colors. I love it!

I’m doing something similar with shoes for myself. I ordered them through an online shoe store to determine the size I need, and then I’m returning them and heading over to my friendly bridal shop to special order them in the color I want.

After working in retail for many years, I admit I feel a little guilty…but I’ll get over it!

I thought it was navy… but I also love that last one! It looks like you had a lot of fun!

I also love the last one. I have a similar dress in purple and know what you mean about the ackward length - especially since I’m quite short. I had it hemmed so that it hits just past my knees, and I love it (I think I wore it to about 4 weddings last year!). So depending on the price of the dress and if you can find cheap alterations, that could be an option. Though it sounds like you already have a decision - when do we get to see the actual dress? :)
