Feeding the Beast

June 20th, 2008 @ 12:25 pm by Mrs. Canary

We’re a month out from the wedding… I still can’t believe it. We’ve been planning for close to a year and a half and suddenly, it’s just weeks away. I’m glad we started early and really don’t have much left do except for the seating chart, programs, menus, and placecards. All things we couldn’t do ahead of time. Our vendors seem to be all set. I am having my finalization meeting with our fabulous DOC, Christine next week… but still there is this bubble of anxiety in the pit of my stomach.

I keep writing up list after list thinking I’ve missed something big. I even second-guessed my dress last week… regretting that I didn’t buy a beautiful couture gown and gone all out on that aspect of the wedding. I totally freaked and emailed a bridesmaid who responded with the following calming words:

Please don’t subscribe to the view that thinks you have to be stressed out in order to accomplish something. Relaxing is okay.

She was totally right. I had purchased my gown because it was perfectly suited for me and the occasion in every way. I reminded myself that I’d be in it for a max of three hours and that’s why I didn’t buy a designer gown. I had also started planning everything early knowing that I would have a lot going on in life at this time and in hindsight I was right, not only did we purchase our first home, we also dealt with a lot of unexpected family issues that no one could have planned.

And yet, I still can’t relax. I tend to be a stress eater. I can work my butt off at the gym three times a week, but the minute I am feeling anxious or worried I go for a big candy bar or even worse, that jar of Nutella. I doubt this will change, so when I saw these candy bars from The Brooklyn Brothers (via NicBlog) this morning, I just had to laugh. They are a perfect reminder of the simple joys in life and maybe if I had a few of these on hand, I’d be less likely to tear through them because the packaging is just too darn cute.

They’re not available for sale online yet, but you can call them and place an order (minimum order is 12 bars) and they will ship them to you. These would also make great attendant gifts… just think of all the funny photo ops they’ll inspire!

Mr. Canary is away this weekend and I get the whole apartment to myself. I plan to pop in a few episodes of SATC, stay away from the chocolate, and leisurely work on and print out my table numbers… and really try to relax and soak in the amazement that I get to marry my best friend in a few weeks.

Have you noticed more or less anxiety in the upcoming weeks/days to the big day? What do you do to relax?

I am five weeks out and I am trying to enjoy everyday of these final few weeks. I’ve seen too many brides not enjoy it by being stressed so I’m promising to be done with everything a week early. Although I’m still not sleeping, my mind races with things but I keep telling myself it’s mostly planned already. It’s realy an indescribable feeling but at this point I’m forcing myself to relax.

OMG… I have never really been one to stress out too much and we are doing a pretty casual wedding, but with 30 something days to go, my neck and shoulders are big wads of knots despite my best intentions. I made a final “to do” list last night and looking at it made me a bit sick. BUT… I have a planning meeting with a good friend next week and she will no doubt put my mind at ease.

I live in NY… maybe I’ll just have to pick up some of those candy bars!

Wow! This post is me! We’re getting married the same weekend and I am finally not stressed, and I’m worried that I’m not, which is just causing more stress!

Hang in there - I’m sure you haven’t forgotten anything!

Oh wow, I do NOT like those candy bars! And I would be very insulted if someone gave them to me!

I don’t feel stressed out, except when people say, “OMG, your wedding is so soon!” Sometimes I worry that I’m not stressed out enough. Haha.

I have 22 days left until the BIG day! The fiance leaves for a work trip to New York all next week (leaving me with both our boys (dogs) and then I leave for Vegas for bachelorette fun before he even gets back. Stressing? yeah, big time! I’m trying to just keep thinking, this is suppose to be super fun! :) its working so far but I hear you on the eating thing, I’m so worried that I’ll just ruin all the working out I did by stress eating the last two weeks….! I may need those pig bars..

Uhm, I think that would just encourage me to snort my way through the whole box. I simply cannot have chocolate in large quantities during stressful times. I will eat the whole thing in one sitting.

As difficult as it is to dredge up the energy to go running, it truly helps relieve the stress. As does yoga. Especially when I have a yoga instructor (or video tape) just telling me what to do instead of having to make decision, after decision, after decision!

I love those Fat Pig Milk Chocolate Bars! I think they would actually keep me away from eating them. I’m a stress eater like yourself- hence why I just finished eating a neopolitan ice cream cone :)
