About Mrs. Peacock

My Pet Rooster

June 20th, 2008 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Peacock

In honor of my little monkey’s third birthday, I thought I would formally introduce you all to Margaret Thatcher Peacock, aka Maisy.

She doesn’t normally look so introspective.

She has 28 different nicknames- because that’s what happens when you have no kids and a dog is the cutest thing in the house- but our favorite is “The Rooster.” We call her that because of the hilarious noise that she makes when she wants your attention. It has become a theme in toys and Halloween costumes.

How P.O.’d does she look?! Mwahaha!! I am so evil. Don’t worry, it wasn’t on for very long.

Neither our church nor our reception site are too keen on dogs as ringbearers, so she will only be at the wedding in spirit. Both Mr. Peacock and I are madly in love with her and we had to find a way to include her in the festivities. I am not ready to reveal our invites quite yet, but let’s just say that Maisy made the RSVP card.

Our hotel is pet friendly and we are considering keeping her with us that night. They provide walking services so it would be comparable to boarding, but without my stress over her welfare. She only takes other dogs in small doses. She has been to doggy day care, but when I pick her up she always seems scared and exhausted. I can’t imagine having so much fun at the reception while she is hiding in a corner at the pet hotel.

For the dog mommies and daddies out there, what are you planning on doing with your pooch on the wedding night?

no doggie anymore (my husband’s lab died before we got married…sadness), but we had a friend stay at our house w/our kitty during our wedding and honeymoon, so the house would be taken care of and kitty would be well fed and loved while we were gone.

Happy birthday, Maisy! We call our dog, Henry, our dogson (like daschund, because he’s a doxie mix). We call our other dog, Abby, Abbinator. And yeah, about a dozen other ridiculous nicknames :)

When ever I am out of town, our dogs go off on hiking adventures with a group of dogs and dog walkers. When both moms are gone, we board them with the dog walkers in their home. We’ve decided to send them off for the weekend to hang out at the dog walkers’ house because I think they’ll have more fun chilling with their pals then being around the wedding stress.

I LOVE Maisy’s Rooster outfit! I (w/ my parents, FH and I don’t live together yet) have to Westies named Barney and Benny so we call them our Bs and got them Bee costumes for Halloween.
We’ll probably hire a neighbor kid to come over to our house to check on them and take them for a walk :)

You named your dog Margaret Thatcher. That’s awesome.

She is so cute!

I love Cavalier King Charles Spaniels! I’ve wanted one of my very own ever since Charlotte got Elizabeth Taylor on SATC.

You’ve solidified it for me. I must get one and give it an awesome people name, like Margret Thatcher, and then a short name too.

LOVE IT!

SMOOCHIES MAISY! You are just the sweetest!

I’d love to have had Billie at the hotel after the wedding, so if I were you I’d have her there. But if youre worried about it, is it possible to keep her at your parents or a friends house?

Ugh, my wedding’s in 9 days and we’re still working out dog care. I think our pooches will stay at home and a friend will check up on them a few times during the day. After that, they are off to parents’/friend’s house during our minimoon.

I am in love with your dog. I have a cocker spaniel, so they’re kind of in the same family. I love spaniels. They are the best.

I’d probably have my dog stay with my parents or board her, or do a combination of both.

I love spaniels!! Woofie (our mini dachshund) actually DID stay with us in our hotel during the wedding night! He’s crate trained, so we just brought the crate and he had the living room all to himself. Of course, being on the 20-something floor made getting him out to use the bathroom a pain, and he DID get super excited when we brought him in, and poohed on the carpet. Whatever, we cleaned it up, and it was nice having him there, as we left for Vegas a day later and I would have died not seeing him!

We have a giant, goofy mutt. Fortunately, a friend will house/dog sit for us the day and night of the wedding - but we have no idea what to do for the honeymoon! FI’s parents were going to keep him, but just found out they won’t be able to due to unfortunate circumstances. Like many pound puppies, he doesn’t do well in kennels or dog hotels, and three weeks is a long time to ask a friend to watch him (he’s very needy - and downright big). It’s causing MAJOR stress!

We left our dog behind for our destination wedding. He was there in spirit though. We took a picture of im in a tie and framed it. We placed his picture on a chair during the ceremony. He was also on each of our table numbers too.

Oh she is SO cute! I’ve been wanting a dog for years (esp a king charles) but Mr. Marg’s is terrified of them. I’m gonna have to show him these pics of Maisy and ask him how he could be scared of something so cute.

Oh my gosh!! My family used to have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel!!! Ours looked exactly like yours (tri-color) … except that he was a boy. ;-)

I think keeping your dog in the room with you is a great idea.. and how awesome is it they have a dog walking service… talk about stress free. I would also do the crate training in another room.. hehe, b/c afterall it is your special night together.

Margaret Thatcher! LOL! That’s an awesome name!

Our Lyla will have to be kenneled. Since the hotel is not pet friendly and since everyone we normally ask to watch her will be at the wedding. So, she will have to go to the kennel over night, which she is not going to happy with us for several days after.

She is too, too cute!! This is exactly why Mr. Pom and I need a SECOND dog - Sterling is too big to fully appreciate costumes.

I too have cavalier and she was in our wedding and spent the night, and the entire week afterwards, with us. (We had a destination wedding) There was no way our baby was not going to be part of our most important day of our lives.

btw, happy birthday Maisie! our baby has a similar costume, but it’s a mouse and we use it during meal times to keep her ear out of the food!

I’ve actually been stressing over what to do with my pup, Foster Rood McBean. He’s a lab and great dane mix. At about 100lbs he’s a much more intimidating lap dog than Margaret Thatcher. When we go out of town, he normally stays with my folks. I’m unsure what the arrangement will be right now…I so wanted to get him a Darth Vader costume for Halloween and a Princess Leia one for his chocolate lab pal, Maggie, but the FH shot me down. He’s no fun!

We, too, cannot have our precious four-legged family member with us on the day of our wedding. Desi is a Jack Russel Terrier who is our sweetheart (my fiance loves to collectively call us his biatches… so loving). Desi is staying in a kennel for a couple days then its off to her doggie haven - my parents 200 some acres in the boondocks. However, as a tribute to our sweetie we’re donating to a local no-kill animal rescue and resource center (for those in the Pittsburgh area - Animal Friends) as our favor. On the note about our donation to our guests, we’ve even included a super cute picture of her.

We have two pups–Odin and Rio–who are both nearing the 60-lb and one-year mark. We want them both to be in the wedding, especially because Odin is black with a white chest. How perfect would a bow-tie collar look on him? Our problem? They’re both shelter dogs and because of that, they each have their own, well, idiosyncrasies. Rio, a beautiful, tall red hound with the softest ears in the world loves to jump up on people. She’s gentle, so it doesn’t hurt, but muddy paws on a white dress just won’t work–especially because we’re getting married on a farm. Secondly, Odin is still skittish around strangers. Just imagine what a whole group of strangers might do to him? Since we’re still more than a year from the wedding, and the pups are still young, we’ll see what we can do training-wise and go from there.

Oh, Peacock! My doggie, Paco, is a cavalier king charles/bichon frise mix and is the cutest muppet ever! They’re such great doggies. Paco definitely trends spaniel and I love that about him! Maisy is such a cute name, too. I lurve her!

Thank you all for the sweet comments. I love her too :) I also loved hearing all your dog stories!

I can leave her with Mr. Peacock’s dad for the minimoon (he LOVES her, we are so lucky), but they will all be as busy as we are on the day/night of the wedding. I think that I might just keep her with us… it would be kinda fun if I took her for a walk in my big dress!

While our 100+ lb Newfoundland would love to to join us on our wedding day (if only to lick each of our 250 guests), she will sadly not be able to attend. We are planning to board her for two nights. In our programs she will be listed as the “honorary flower girl”, and at the reception each table will have a picture of her along with the table number.

Ohhh, Maisy is adorable!!! Luckily my pup (who also has about 1,000 nicknames) loves playing with other dogs, so we’ll be able to board her the day of our wedding with no problem. But if Maisy is shy, do you have any dog walkers/boarding companies in your area who do in-home boarding? Our town has a company that will actually come into your own home and stay with your dog. Something like that might be perfect if you’re staying in a hotel that night, if it’s available in your area — that way Maisy could be in her own house while you’re gone that night, which would probably be much less stressful for her!

Maisy’s expression is priceless!

For our not-so-little one, she’s staying at Camp FILs. Thank goodness for grandparents! Unfortunately, she can’t come to the venue, but we did her a color coordinated wedding collar to wear for some formal shots with us before we head over. :)
