Our First Guests Have Arrived!

June 22nd, 2008 @ 1:27 pm by Mrs. Gingerbread

The wedding is just under a month out, but our first guests arrived today all the way from the U.K. Meet our cake toppers!

These little babies were created by Theresia of Strawberriesandcream on Etsy. As you may recall, I was scouring Etsy for weeks looking for some cute animal cake toppers, but our budget just didn’t allow for the purchase of what I was finding. I’d actually crossed “cake topper” off of our to-do list because it just seemed out of our price range.

By some random luck, I stumbled onto Theresia’s Etsy shop and saw that she made adorable animal pin cushions that she sells for $14. Of course, being totally one track minded, I immediately thought CAKE TOPPERS! I convo’ed Theresia who was the sweetest person ever from the moment we started collaborating. At first she directed me to vendors who specialized in cake toppers, but I insisted that her birdies were what we were after. I told her about our origami cranes and said that something origami-esque for the pattern would be awesome. She immediately showed me some samples she had and she whipped up these babies in no time. Now, two and a half weeks after I first got in touch with her, these little birds are home!

Here’s one of the birds in my hot little hand.

Theresia also makes a slew of other adorable creatures. Just look at this sweet owl. She also does mice and hedgehogs.

So, animal cake topper fans, have you discovered any great finds?

Yes, I contacted Owlishly on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5347491

And she’s making me 1/2 sized amigurumi dolls for me! Her current ones are about 7″ tall, but she’s making mine (a dinosaur and a bee) out of crochet thread. It’s awesome, because we’ve got a slightly Japanese motif going on (we’re getting married in a sake tasting room, and our invitations have little Japanese Chibi characatures of us!) I can’t wait to see them when they’re done!

I LOVE ETSY!

So perfect!! I love the colors and the green print. I’m halfheartedly looking, but I still don’t know if we’re doing normal cake or cuppy cakes… but I’m sure I’d find a use for them.

Etsy is the freakin’ bomb.
