My Man’s Wedding Band

June 23rd, 2008 @ 5:59 pm by Miss Cherry Pie

When last you heard from me about Mr. Cherry Pie’s wedding band, I was considering a tungsten carbide ring. Because EternalTungsten.com didn’t make rings in Mr. Cherry’s size, we went down to E.E. Robbins, Seattle’s engagement ring store to look at the tungsten bands they had in stock.

There were plenty of options, but none were just right for Mr. Cherry Pie. Some of the designs weren’t “him,” and many didn’t have the comfortable, low-profile fit that he wanted.

Wouldn’t ya know it though, there was this absolutely beautiful platinum and 18 karat ring sitting right next to the tungsten bands…

This ring was so stylish and sophisticated on Mr. Cherry. The little splash of color was just the thing. And check out the craftsmanship - Coge Designs has actually fused the gold layers with the platinum rather than just filling in the grooves in the platinum.

Mr. Cherry Pie loved this ring too, but he said he’d be perfectly happy with a tungsten band. I went back and forth for a while on price, because the platinum band was considerably more than I had budgeted (it was $2500 before tax and sizing, whereas the tungsten bands were anywhere from $200 to $800). Ultimately, I decided that with all the love and work Mr. Cherry had put into designing my engagement ring and my wedding band, I wanted him to have the ring we both loved the most.

So here is his beautiful band, straight from Germany…

I picked Mr. Cherry Pie’s ring up last Friday at lunch and surprised him with it after a special dinner. We went out on the porch for what I said was a toast to the longest day of the year, and had Mr. Cherry close his eyes for some delicious chocolate. When I was “unwrapping the chocolate” I got down on one knee and proposed to him with his wedding band.

And wouldn’t you know it, even though we’ve been engaged since August 2006, my heart was still pounding when I gave him his ring. D’awww.

He put it on to check the sizing and now it’s safe and sound in its box until our wedding day. That is, when I’m not taking it out to ogle it.

Is anyone else super-excited about their/their FI’s wedding band? I can’t wait until mine is ready!

im dying for my ring! my sister makes jewelry and shes making mine and his. mine is being made from a vintage cocktail ring that cost me 50 cents at a local shop. i just loved the design so much i had her cast it and duplicate the design all around the band like an eternity ring and add diamonds. his is being made from leaves she found in her yard and then pressed into the band. both bands are made from wax so she can change the details before they are cast into metal (white gold for us). i think having them made by hand is amazing, and that my sister is the one is extra special. (if anyone else wants her to make a ring, just ask me for her website!)

My FI has a very similar ring, but it is the carbide tungsten! I LOVE LOVE it. I’m really glad you went all out - they DO deserve it for putting up with us! High 5!

I’m very excited about my fiance’s wedding band. Like you we thought we were going to get a Tungsten ring and found the perfect one. But before I ordered it, my mother gave me her’s and my father’s wedding bands. My father passed away 9 years ago and they enjoyed a long 38 years together before he died. There was not a dry eye in the room when I told Greg about the band. I’m very honored to have their wedding bands, I had both engraved with their wedding date and ours.

i can’t wait for the ring to arrive and was actually planning on proposing. i’m hoping to snag it out of the mail before he sees so i can surprise him, though hopefully it won’t take me as long to propose as it took him - he had my ring for three months! :)

that’s an amazing ring. and honestly, i think it’s a great decision. you said that mr. cherry pie climbs. tungsten carbide is impossible to cut, right? so if your hubby had an accident involving that finger, it wouldn’t be the ring that was cut (get my drift?). we considered tungsten, too… loving the fact it was so unusual. but because hubby is so active, we just wanted to ensure that he’d still have a finger should there be an accident.

@nowmrswhite: It’s true that tungsten can’t be cut off in the traditional sense, but it can be easily removed. Tungsten will shatter with pressure (even hitting a tungsten band the wrong way on a door frame could shatter it), so it can still be broken safely to be removed. :)

From the research i’ve done it looks like the Tungsten Bands are a great way to go. They’re durable, hold their shine for decades, and look masculine and stylish. We’re definitely going that route for replacement rings in the near future.
