Trying to plan a wedding in a new city, not to mention a new country, is tough, but the fact that we can get legally married here more than makes up for it! The wedding will be an opportunity for most of our family and friends to see our new city for the first time so it will be both a wedding and a reunion. Besides my future wife, I am also madly in love with a good bargain, Swedish pastries, Tivo, and my two dogs and calico cat (in no particular order).

Origami Escort Cards

June 23rd, 2008 @ 5:32 pm by Mrs. Gingerbread

My ten year old niece has folded 340 cranes so far (!) and in honour of her hard work, we are using her cranes for our escort cards. Here is her bin of cranes. We’ll be using two green patterns for this project.

Yesterday we hit up Michael’s for some supplies to finish our origami escort cards. We bought wire, beads, a crimper, birch branches, and a tag shaped punch. Put it all together and here’s what we came up with.

Once we finish the project, I’ll show you what a complete flock of origami escort cards looks like. In the meantime, I have to outsmart our beautiful, yet evil cat who would love nothing more than to take down the entire flock. She may look innocent, but she’s just resting up for the big kill.

Anyway, to thanks our hard working crane folder, I’m thinking of ordering her this necklace from Etsy seller SilverClouds.

Have you used child labour had any help from family members to complete any of your wedding related projects?

I love the necklace, I think it’s a great way to comemorate all of her hard work!

I love it! We did the same thing for our asian-inspired wedding. But we bought them from 1000foldorigami. I had no one endentured to me….

the crane escort birds are beautiful!!!!!! I love the idea! it looks very easy to make. my fiance made me 1000 cranes near the beginning of our relationship and we’re having a bird theme at the wedding too. i thought of using the cranes (that we already have) to make something similar but we have a lot of guests attending who may trample over one other in order to find their names.

Wow, your kitty could be the twin of my two furry friends. They look all fuzzy and innocent too… until they pounce!

Wow, those look so beautiful with the beads. The necklace is awesome and such a reasonable price! She will totally treasure that, and it’s something she can wear into grown-up-hood. :-)

Those are going to be beautiful! We had origami lilies as our escort cards, but my fiance and I folded them almost entirely ourselves. People will love your birds!! I can’t wait to see the finished flock.

This is beyond lovely. I wish we could come up with a non-traditional, culturally appropriate idea like this . . . alas. I think we’ll just be having placecards.

We did get the idea - and I can’t remember where to give credit - to put framed photos of our parents’ and grandparents’ and great-grandparents’ weddings on the escort table. It’s one of the few “creative” things we’ll do.

And, my FH is addicted to canning, so we will probably be giving jars of pickles and jelly as wedding favors. Woe unto those who try to pack them in their carry-on bags!

those are completely lovely - the flock will look amazing!

while i won’t have any child labor (sadly, my two year old niece just isn’t that coordinated yet), i just finished planning a wedding work party where my girls and i will be getting together to make envelopes for our invites. to be fair, i will be providing chocolately baked deliciousness and entertainment in the form of girly movies, so it should be fun. :)

@Emerson: Homemade jellies and pickles! Such a great idea for favours. It really fits well with your wedding location too :)

I had origami at my wedding, too :) I’ve got an origami obsessed online friend who I got to do it. I asked her to surprise me with a variety of animals:
