About Mrs. Cream Puff

Pre-Wedding Honeymoon

June 23rd, 2008 @ 3:55 pm by Mrs. Cream Puff

I have been a major crankfest for the past 2 weeks or so. I think the stress (even though I wasn’t consciously feeling much) was starting to get to me. The other day, I picked a fight. At the end of it, Mr. Cream Puff and I realized that we haven’t done anything special, just the two of us, in a very long time.

When we lived in Ohio for a year, we were totally miserable. We really didn’t like it there, and we were really far away from our families. Thus, we made an extra special attempt to go places and do things to make life better. We took tons of weekend trips and drove all over the place. It was great. Since we’ve moved home, though, we’ve become complacent. It’s kind of like the boiling frog analogy. In Ohio, we kept jumping out of the pot because the water was boiling. Now that we’re back in California, our water keeps getting hotter, but we are totally oblivious. I was apparently reaching boiling point, haha. SO we’ve decided to get the heck out of here and go somewhere for a weekend.

This, I think, is a good lesson for marriage in general. I think it’s easy to get bogged down in life and forget to pay attention to one another. Maybe a scheduled weekend trip every few months or so would help? Otherwise you might realize suddenly that it’s been a year and you haven’t gone anywhere or spent much time with one another.

Is anyone else taking a pre-wedding honeymoon?

Not quite a honeymoon, but Mr. H and I went out of town last weekend to a wedding and it was much needed to get away. We had an amazing time and now are more excited for our big day then ever!

that is a great idea. We have a weekend in New York planned in about 3 weeks (for a friend’s wedding) and I can’t wait. I think getting away from the daily grind is going to be just what the doctor ordered: No Work, No Cleaning, No Planning… just time together and playing.

I guess not quite the same as what you meant Miss H, but we had to take our honeymoon before the wedding because of scheduling issues. Worked out well, I think, and gave me a break from planning before we came back for the last 2 weeks of last minute stuff =)

We have the week after the 4th off, and have a lot of wedding stuff to do since we live in NY anad wedding is in MA. We decided to take 2 days out of the week and do no wedding stuff and no family stuff - just us. So not exactly the same thing, but along the same lines! Great idea for the pre-honeymoon…and from SF you have so many great places to go! (used to live there - miss it!)

FI and I run into this same thing all the time. We sudden realize that while we have been spending a lot of time together (we live together), it hasn’t been ‘quality time.’ When that happens, we put aside our projects and make time to ‘be together’ whether it be relaxing in our back yard or a big date night.

We have fun by planning surprise dates for each other. One of us only knows to keep a certain day open (and sometimes roughly what to wear). The other plans a whole date around a theme. Sometimes they are silly (Chinese food and “Kung Fu Panda”), fun (berry picking and cooking/eating a berry dessert), simple (morning coffee shop and walk), or romantic (revisiting special places in our early relationship). We have a lot of fun with the themes, because the surprised partner trys to pick up the theme and figure out what might be coming next! Then it’s (unofficially) the other person’s turn!

I’m currently plotting a honeymoon (Greece) themed date! I’m thinking a day at the river/beach with Greek wine, olives, and cheese, followed by…??

sure did! the month before the wedding we decided to do special things with each other. i was in vegas for 6 days for work. since i was out there i asked work to stay there through the weekend to spend time with Ed.

then after that we made sure one day a week we did something together whether it’s movie or to the mall… something to get out of dodge for a minute..

Hey there Miss CP!

As a matter of fact, Mr. S and I are taking a much need a vacation/Pre wedding HM. We are going camping for a whole week-just the 2 of us. While we booked this over a year ago, we had no idea we would need it. We are stressed out from our jobs and of course the wedding planning. We really miss our weekends when we go to the movies-just us 2 (now they are consumed with wedding errands). The week long camping drive is only a 2 1/2 hrs away and we will be in a cabin secluded from the world. Ok, not really (there will be other cabins), but you get my drift. We will be doing some gold prospecting too. Hopefully to find more gold!!

Whoo hoo! Can not wait.
