About Mrs. Pomegranate

I promise I’ll cover more on my dress later - once the actual designing has begun. In the meantime, thought we should cover the manly side of our Bridal Party and get some tie talk goin’. Last week, Mr. Pom took his two most fashionable friends to MW Tux for a fashion show. There was much deliberation between the boys on what they would be wearing, as I am not one of those brides who has a specific vision - rather, I’d like for them to be comfy. Classy, mind you, but comfy.

So the real question is Tie or Bow Tie?

The green Tie Getup in question - black Calvin Klein tux, straight white shirt, white vest, green striped tie, and white pocket square.

The boys thought this Bow Tie Getup was pretty killer - white flat tuxedo shirt, white bow tie and fitted white vest.

Personally, I felt that the white Bow Tie Getup was a little too summery for our fall wedding, but if they liked it, I’d support it. I was rooting for the green Tie Getup - but perhaps we’d mix it up with different patterned ties in the same color range. Mr. Pom’s tie could be in black and white to match the ribbon on my bouquet. Of course, this was all something that could be mirrored using Bow Ties as well.

Mr. Pom, Cousin Pomegranate and Groomsman weighing the pros and cons of Ties Vs. Bow Ties.

The Verdict?

The green Tie Getup!

Some mixed tie ideas, but not the in the right color green - all from Paul Frederick.

I’m loving the white vest over the green tie - I think it looks great and really showcases the green of the tie. I just need to make sure that the green matches our wedding colors - so they don’t clash with the gift I am giving the bridesmaids to wear. While this has proved rather difficult so far, I’m considering making my own custom ties using Zazzle. Has anyone used this service before?

What are your Groomsmen wearing - Ties or Bow Ties?

I’ve used Zazzle with good results, but just for t-shirts. Also, be careful to leave lots of time for shipping, as they pulled some funny shennanigans (one shirt was significantly delayed printing, so they held all the shirts up, despite the rush shipping request) that almost resulted in our not getting our shirts in time for our event!

Well they were all going to wear a casual outfit of ties, but now we can’t even find a suit for the groom to wear. He is VERY slender and so far all the suits make him look as if he has the tiniest head ever. We may just forgo the tie!

I’ve used Zazzle for Save the Date stickers (for our guests to put on their calendars), and they turned out great! My fiance designed all of our printed items (Save the Date magnets & stickers, invitations & programs).

I saw the personalized ties on Zazzle and really want Mr. Lindsey to design ties for the groomsmen. I don’t know if he’ll have time to do it, though.

I also wanted to design our own stamps through Zazzle, but alas, it was an afterthought and we didn’t have enough time. I was so on schedule until about 2 months ago! But I guess that’s kind of normal when you’re a month away from the big day.

Anyways, we will be having regular ties (not bow ties) for the tuxes.

Funny, I was just on Zazzle the other day working on a potential joke-tie for mr beanchar.

Do keep in mind that the ties are 100% poly, which is why mr b wouldn’t like one as a “regular” tie.

Also, they are only printed on the front part of the tie that shows. This would probably be less of an issue with the vest than with an ordinary coat and tie set up.

That said, they do offer a “100% satisfaction guarantee” and volume discounts, so maybe worth a shot. Be sure and Goggle for a coupon too– I got 15% off the t-shirt I ended up ordering instead. :)

@Gerby: Gerby, check out ebay for Italian suits– generally cut MUCH slimmer than their US counterparts.

I love the idea of all the different tie variations for the groomsmen! And I love the green color!
As for my FH, I don’t know what he’ll be wearing.

We decided to just have one person each for the bridal party, my sister and his brother, to try to keep things simple (and not make lots of friends have to buy dresses!), and then involve friends in other ways in the wedding. I loved the idea, but lately I’ve been wondering what to do to really make the groom stand out… It’s pretty easy to differentiate the maid of honor and the bride, but the groom and best man? Short of having him wear a white tux (NO!!), I’m not sure how to make him really stand out. Any ideas?

gerby: my guy’s skinny, too (but still dead sexy) and his suit is by bcbg. it’s cut very slim and fits him better than any other one he’s tried on. we bought it at a pretty steep discount from a men’s store that was going out of business, but it might be a brand for you to keep in mind. good luck! here’s a link on our blog if you want to see how the cut of suit:

Miss. Pomm - do you have pictures of the guys in the cut-away vest? I am debating on whether or not to do the full vest, but the cut-away might be what I’m looking for!

I LOVE the different patterned ties. I like when things all go together but are not too matchy-matchy. I am trying to work on keeping the matchy-matchy out of my wedding scheme at the moment, so your post gives me some great inspiration!! Thanks Miss Pom! :)

You could also have custom ties made. That’s what I did for my DH. I worked with a woman who makes ties to find a fabric that matched my dress and she made him a custom tie.
