One Step Closer to Marriage

June 24th, 2008 @ 6:00 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

Before I headed into work this morning, Mr. Lovebird and I went to the City Clerk’s Office in Queens and got our marriage license!

(warning: Sex and the City spoiler alert below)

We got there at about 8:50am and we were out of there by 9:40am. The office opens at 8:30am and we were glad we went early because the line was much longer on our way out. We waited for about five minutes outside the building, went through the metal detectors where they confiscated my glass Snapple bottle, then waited 2 minutes to get the white application form. Mr. Lovebird waited in another line, because people started piling in, while I filled out the form in “black ink” at the counters. We waited another 15-20 minutes in line when the lady behind the booth took our form and IDs and put our info into the computer. We double checked the info she entered on the monitor screen and then were sent to pay the cashier. She swiped our credit card for $35 and we were off!

In New York City, you have to wait a full 24 hours before your marriage ceremony can be performed (unless you obtain a judicial waiver). The marriage license is also only valid for 60 days. Next Tuesday, we plan on getting civilly married at the City Clerk’s Office in either Queens, Brooklyn, or Manhattan.

What do you guys think? Get married in Manhattan like Carrie and Big.

In Brooklyn, right next to where I attended law school and where we can celebrate under the Brooklyn Bridge at the River Cafe afterwards.

Or in Queens, where we were today, cuz it happens to be the closest?

Where do you think we should get legally married?

what a spoiler! I vote Brooklyn, but that’s because me and the Boy’s best memories were made there. Plus, downtown Brooklyn Heights is beautiful- photos by the river!

Ok..maybe you should edit your post. That wasn’t very nice. Just for that you are not allowed to do it in the Carrie and Big style. Your punishment is Queens! Get married in Queens. ;) I honestly vote for the easiest place. It’s not like it’s your “REAL” wedding.

Brooklyn!! I used to live in Dumbo, and now I get a little glow whenever I see it in movies and magazines (in other words, constantly). You’d see your wedding spot all the time!

Get married where they have the nicest interior - Manhattan? - it is a really special time. Although it is not your “real” wedding it it another wonderful moment!

We got our marriage license in Brooklyn and if it helps, there were not too many people there on the weekday and they were really nice…or maybe it was just our lucky day! =) But I’m biased to Brooklyn anyways! Congrats!

Haha, no votes for Queens…and having served jury duty out in Kew Gardens, I’d agree with everyone else - go with Brooklyn or Manhattan :D

That is unless you just want to get it out of the way and head home for a nice quiet dinner together to celebrate

Poor Queens! I would get married in whichever place gives you warm fuzzies when you think about it :)

I am going to get my license at Queens Boro hall too! In fact, I live in the neighborhood, and there were always a long line. I am planning to get married on Staten Island, where I used to live and parents currently living. It’s just sooooo much quite and less people, which will boost us out like 20 minutes! heeeee

Nah, not Brooklyn! I live in Brooklyn and love it, but I was just at the City Clerk’s Office to look up something about a house in their files in the basement. I have to tell you that the Brooklyn City Clerk’s Office is kind of dirty/dingy. Plus there are a lot of bums hanging around outside.

There was an absolutely beautiful bride there, but I thought “oh no here’s a beautiful bride in this dirty government building.”

So not Brooklyn for marriage, but the Brooklyn Bridge for pics is awesome!
