About Mrs. Coconut

I realize the title of this post is horrendously boring, but practical posts deserve practical titles for ease of searching! Don’t hate. ;)

Last night, Sister Coconut, her lovely bridesmaid Lindsay, and I made the OOT bag labels and flower initials (a la Pootiekins) for her wedding, which is only 1.5 weeks away!!! Before we started all the crafty goodness though, Mr. Coconut and I gave Sister Coconut her wedding gift.

Oh yes ladies, the elusive KitchenAid Mixer in Cinnamon Gloss! Please pardon the fingerprints, we kept oohing and ahhing over it.For the OOT bags, Sister Coconut bought some simple kraft bags from Michael’s. We only needed 40, so the bags were a good choice. I designed the label in Adobe InDesign, which is super awesome. I’ve always used Illustrator, but I really warmed to InDesign. It’s much easier to use, or maybe I’m just used to the Adobe suite at this point.

Her wedding takes place on 4th of July weekend, so the colors are red & blue (it’s brighter in person). I tried to create a “firework-like” display. What do you think? I bought Avery sheet labels from Office Depot and printed out two designs per sheet on our Canon Pixma 4500. I cut them out using some cute Fiskar scissors bought from Michael’s.

For the initials, I took a cue from the ultra fab, mrs.pootiekins (aka Sarah K. Chen aka Pengy’s amazing photographer). I also used Mrs. Cherry Blossom’s post, which contains some helpful tips! We bought 10 silk flowers from Michael’s that were all 50%! Total cost for the silk flowers was $15. For the initials, I simply followed suit and ordered from Craft Cuts (16″, Times New Roman, 1/4 thick). They weren’t “cheap,” but I ordered three initials (Sister fiance’s first initial is the same as mine) at a total cost of $35 including shipping. One thing we did differently - Sister Coconut put the glue on the wood first and then pressed the flower into it. I asked her how many times she burned herself and she responded, “Five.” Is that any better? I’m not sure.

I only post this picture to show you what Mr. Coconut did the whole time. That’s right. He played Wii Mario.

We bought the green textured ribbon from Michael’s $1 bin. Score!

I did the initials in advance a couple months ago. My finance was there “de-flowering” the fake flowers as I sounded like a sailor being a hot glue gun novice. I love them and take them out to show friends who visit. The Michael’s dollar ribbon=love!

I’m currently working on these monogram letter too! They are actually very fun and theraputic! I ran out of flowers and then waited until they had a sale to buy some more! LOL

Thx, Miss Coconut for this post! The OOT bag label design looks so great!

A question for all of you that have done the flowered monogram… do you really think it needs to be done with wooden letters? Could I use super thick foam board instead? Like the kind used for science fair project displays. I’d love to save some mula if I could!

@Vicki: Oh, I wish I knew the name, they sorta look like hydrangeas, but they have a more fringed look. So sorry that’s not helpful, but they were bought at Michael’s.

@jenn: I think that would be fine, but I would be worried about what the back would look like. The wood letters have a nice finish to them. Good luck!
