Beat the Heat

June 27th, 2008 @ 5:12 pm by Mrs. Tiramisu

I just stumbled on a little miracle product, and given the current 90-degree temperatures here in Maryland, I thought I would share! The weather has been killing us, as Mr. T and I are moving this week - YAY for our first place together! We’ve been living for the past year in a house together, but we have a roommate- and while I’m going to miss Roommate Tiramisu (ha Brandon, I promised you’d get a little Weddingbee mention!), it’s going to be nice to be living just the two of us in our own place.

Anyway, I was at The Body Shop a few weeks ago buying my favorite body butter, and found this Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream in my bag as a free sample. I have what I consider to be pretty normal skin- a little dry in the winter, and a little oily in the summer. I’ve tried other makeup primers before, but none could seem to stop that sort of oily T-zone look that creeps up on a hot day. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this one works! The key ingredient is “bladderwack seaweed” (mmm, that sounds like something you’d love to slather on your face, right?), and I swear it keeps my face from getting shiny all day long. I used to rely on blotting paper, but I haven’t needed to use any at all since I purchased this stuff.

I’m definitely planning on wearing it on my wedding day, underneath my makeup, and it also works great by itself- no makeup for me on moving day! My only warning is that the smell isn’t fantastic (seaweed doesn’t really do anything for me anyway), but the results are great.

What’s your best hot-weather beauty secret?

Ooh! Thanks - I totally want to try this!

As for my hot weather product, I try any Kaolin Clay masks I can get my hands on. I have OILY OILY OILY skin and so I need something to suck out all the bad stuff at least once a week. My most recent favorites I picked up in Calistoga - the Avani Facial Mud and Avani Herbal Honey Mask. They keep my pores happy.

No special heat tips, but boy could we use ‘em! We were at an outdoor wedding (in Northern VA) tonight and thought we’d die of heat!!

I totally need something like this. I am so tired of all the shine in photographs. Its too bad that it doesn’t smell good, because everything else in there smells amazing! Thank you for the tip!

i ran out and bought some, but it didn’t work for me. i don’t consider myself to have oily skin, but i do tend to get shiny in humid weather. oh well. i guess i’ll have to stick to oil blotting papers
