Choosing STDs and Team Margarita

June 27th, 2008 @ 11:28 am by Miss Margarita

I’ve also been MIA and I’m so sorry for the delay in posts. I’m in California right now with Mr. Margarita doing a crazy amount of wedding things in a short amount of time. I really can’t believe we are two months away!

So, I introduced my color scheme and invitation mood board in my last post. With my color scheme in mind, the first thing Saima designed was our save the dates. I didn’t give Saima much direction initially except that I wanted to include lotus flowers somewhere in the invitation suite (save the dates, invitations or both). I grew up Buddhist and I was an eastern religion major in college, so lotus flowers hold special meaning to me. There are many interpretations of what they can mean, but the one I like the best describes the lotus flower as the progression of the soul. The roots of the flower start in the mud of materialism and suffering, the stem travels through the water representing experience and growth in life, and finally the pristine flower lies above the water signifying enlightenment.

Here are the beautiful designs she came back with:

Option 1:

Option 2:
Ignore the weird yellow color – it’s supposed to be a rich orange color

Option 3:

I knew immediately that I wanted either option 1 or 2. Option 1 was elegant, but option 2 had a lotus flower and was more unusual.

I can be indecisive and overthink everything so I decided to poll my family and my close girlfriends. I received so much feedback ranging from minor wording changes to complete redesign. What I learned from this experience, and throughout the planning process, is that it’s better to avoid seeking the opinions of too large an audience. It really just makes things more complicated and the decision that much harder to make. Most of the time you just have a gut feeling and it makes decision making much less stressful. I’ve identified a team of my key peeps I consult with which include Mr. Marg, Momma Marg and my MOH. Of course now I’ll add the hive into my team :)

So this is what Team Margarita came up with:

Option 2 but in plum with gold:

Anyone else have a team to help with decisions?

I love the choice you made, I really liked the design of the option 2.
We don’t have many people around us, although I try to somehow involve people. The main team is my husband (we’re having a family wedding) and I.

Those invitations are gorgeous!! I love that purple, I am using the same in my wedding but with pink and red.

I totally agree about too many opinions. I only ask 2 people what they think about things: my fiance, and my sister. I tried letting other people in on the decisions at first, but it becomes overwhelming trying to incorporate too many other people’s ideas.

What is the manufacturer of the plum paper Saima is using, if you don’t mind my asking? I have been using Stardream Ruby which is a shimmer paper that is very close to the color you have above, but I dont want everything to be so shimmery.

I love option two, but I like it even more in the variation that y’all chose. All of your papaer just looks to lush! Gorgeous.

fabulous Save the Dates - incredibly elegant, with just the right touch of unique/fun/different.

our team is each other, and some of my co-workers (some have been through the process, one is going through it now). all have great eyes and good opinions without being too close/involved. that way, the invites are also going to be a complete surprise to all our guests. woo hoo!
