About Mrs. Daffodil

Believe it or not, I was never one who had thought too much about my wedding before I had gotten engaged.  Never thought about my e-ring, never thought about my dress, never thought about the theme.  But there was one random thing I did think about prior to getting engaged. Don’t laugh, but that one aspect was what our table names might be! I know, RANDOM, right?! I’d seen personalized tables done at a wedding before and thought it was such a good idea. Whatever our wedding would be like, I knew I wanted our tables names to reveal to our guests a bit about our journey as a couple.

I loved the idea of using “places” for names, since our guests would be “going” to a table. Come reception planning time, and the question became, well, what type of places? We could do places we’ve lived, since we’ve moved around so much. Or places that we’ve been, since we’ve both traveled fairly extensively. We bounced around a bunch of ideas.

Ultimately, we landed on using places of significance to us, that represented either a memorable moment or a period of time in our lives. At first, we tried thinking of one place for every letter of the alphabet, but we found ourselves choosing places that actually weren’t that special just to make it work (I mean, there aren’t that many places in general that begin with the letter Q smiley404).

We came up with a list of places, and wrote a short 2-3 sentence blurb about why that place was special (or rather, Mr. D did, because I was getting really stressed at that time - He was seriously such a great sport and the most helpful groom ever!!). We chose places like where we were when we first decided to start our relationship, where we used to study together in college, our favorite date places, where we were going on our honeymoon, where our new home would be! Of course, we created (double-sided) table name cards that would match all of our other wedding stationery.

Are you naming your tables?  If so, what’s the theme??

Our tables were numbered - but they corresponded to Buckeye football players (hubby’s an OSU alumni). I got photos of each player (making sure that their jersey numbers were clear) and used those in clear frames on the tables.

Our out of town guests LOVED it & my family thought it was neat because it really represented hubby!

Instead of table numbers, I think we are going to do important dates ~ the year our parents married, the number of nicknames for each other, etc.

We are an outdoorsy couple so we are doing National Parks that we’ve visited together. I’m hoping to get 2 more in before the wedding to cover all of the tables!

We love to travel, and have done so extensively together throughout our relationship. We are naming each table after a country we have visted together, and there will be 4-5 framed photos of us in each country situated around the table. So excited about this!

Classic movie geeks over here! So we each picked our favourite four classic stars, and we’re using a photo of them as our table names (labelled, as I doubt most people would be able to recognise Ginger Rogers or Humphrey Bogart, sad as that may seem.

We loooooooooooooooooooooooove to eat! So we are doing a restaurant theme. The table names will be “restaurant names” we dined at - we wrote 1 sentence about it and we rated it with stars.

I love that idea! I think it’s fun for guests to get to know you better over the little details like these. ;)

This is a great way to personalize your table numbers! We were planning to do this very same thing until we got our engagement photos taken - and we loved them so much we decided to incorporate them into our table numbers, much like Miss Tiramisu. The only way ours are different than hers is we loaded our black and white pics into this website that makes your photos look “old” then just added table numbers in photoshop in our wedding colors. They turned out really vintage-like and fun!

love it! after much debate and many ideas, we’ve settled on shared activities. a photographer friend is going to take a picture of us partaking in said activity, which we’ll use for table signs. that way, everyone gets to know a little bit more about what we like to do and it ensures that we do some fun things with friends prior to the wedding. it’s my evil plot to save me from myself…

@acw - if your venue doesn’t provide, check with the caterer. sometimes they are included, but there may be a rental fee. we ended up purchasing ours from a local restaurant supply store.

We love movies so our tables will be names after our favorite movies and instead of the whole clanking the glasses thing, our guests must say a line from the movie table they are sitting at in order for us to kiss.
