About Me: Somehow this little farm girl found herself a genuine Pole to fall in love and eventually move away to Poland with. I am an LDS (Latter Day Saints) bride attempting to plan a private religious ceremony, ring ceremony, seated reception for 100, and an open house while coordinating for guests flying in from across the United States and as far away as Poland. I try to avoid fads, excess waste, and saturated fat. I strongly endorse photography, DDR, calorie counting, rss feeds, cooking, and utilizing your resources.
Our guest blogger Andrea created these super fun diy playbill programs that she wanted to share with the hive!
~~~
A lot of wedding programs looked like restaurant menus to me, so it was one of the first DIY projects I wanted to tackle. My fiance came up with the great idea of making a playbill - we love the theater, so it fit us perfectly.
Mr. Pineapple and I would love to go to Ireland for our honeymoon. We looked into several different trips to the emerald isle, but in the end decided to skip the honeymoon for the time being. Hopefully, next summer we will have enough saved for the trip or maybe next year we will buy a house. Either way, we’ll make it there eventually.We do want to do something after the wedding. Just to get away and be together for a couple of days. I know many couple do it, but I couldn’t imagine getting married on Saturday and going to work on Monday. So, Mr. Pineapple and I are going on a couple of mini-moons.
The first stop: Cleveland. That’s right, tropical and exotic Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland is just a hop, skip and a jump from Pittsburgh so it would be an easy get away. Mr. P and I love to watch Iron Chef America and their new chef Michael Symon. Symon owns two restaurants in Cleveland, Lola and Lolita. Dinner at one of the two locations was the starting point of our planning. For the rest of our plans we will scope out some of Mrs. Dahlia’s recommendations.
Excellence Playa Mujeres is a fairly new, all-inclusive hotel located approximately half way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The resort is completely flawless, boasting eight different restaurants, several outdoor and indoor bars, free entertainment, unlimited drinks, 24 hour room-service, fully stocked inclusive in-room mini-bars, a private beach, and scheduled day and nighttime activities, all secluded in a fairly remote and undeveloped stretch of beach. We had to travel through two large security gates to get into the resort, both fully staffed with security double checking our names and room numbers every time we entered and exited, so there was a pretty decent feeling of security.
Believe it or not, I was never one who had thought too much about my wedding before I had gotten engaged. Never thought about my e-ring, never thought about my dress, never thought about the theme. But there was one random thing I did think about prior to getting engaged. Don’t laugh, but that one aspect was what our table names might be! I know, RANDOM, right?! I’d seen personalized tables done at a wedding before and thought it was such a good idea. Whatever our wedding would be like, I knew I wanted our tables names to reveal to our guests a bit about our journey as a couple.
Miss GB 2.0 and I decided to take a few dance lessons before the wedding so that we could avoid the old sway-back-and-forth junior high version of slow dancing. We were really excited when we found a dance studio in Vancouver called Not So Strictly Ballroom, which specializes in same-sex ballroom dancing. The only beginner’s class available that fit our schedule was the slow waltz so we signed up for it. We had a blast at the class, but then we realized that most of the songs we considered for our first dance are not waltz appropriate. The song that comes up when you google “first dance” and “waltz” is Ann Murray’s “Can I Have This Dance.” I do have a soft spot for Ann Murray since my mom used to listen to her when I was a kid, but I think this is probably one of the cheesiest songs ever! (No offense meant if this is your first dance song).
I’m a sad bunny. On Sunday evening, my boss at the magazine that I work for left me a voicemail saying the magazine is folding and they are laying everyone off due to a lack of cash flow. I soon found out that by “everyone” they meant my friend and I. It’s probably for the best, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m unemployed and have no idea how I’m going to pay the bills, not to mention tackle the wedding expenses.
Initially, I wanted all of my bridesmaids to wear the same dress. My vision was of an affordable tea-length, black dress that my seven beautiful friends would not only want, but love to wear again. After a week of searching, I found “it” at White House Black Market. Things were going oh-so-good. But then, after a few of them tried it on, I started to realize something - the dress looked very different on each one of them, from length to cleavage to fit. So, rather than have them all spend even more money on alterations and such, I set out to find something new. This was harder than I thought. After a month of searching, I came to the conclusion that no dress was going to fit the same on each one of my lovely bridesmaids.
I’ve decided to let each pick her own classy, tea- length, black, non-strapless dress. This will be much easier on their wallets, preference, and my brain. To help you see what my scatter brain is envisioning, I created the inspiration board below.
I promised you guys a post on what we’re looking for in a bee, so here goes!
I often tell people that if I were to apply to be a bee today, I’d get rejected.
There are so many talented ladies blogging in the hive! But I’ll let you guys in on a little bee secret: many of our bees are second and even third time applicants.
Why does it usually take a few applications to become a Weddingbee blogger? Most of the time, it’s because most blogs have a more ”personal blog” like tone. On your own blog, you can pretty much blog about whatever you want - because it’s mostly your friends reading, it’s all good. A Weddngbee blog is kinda dfferent: you have to write for an audience, which can be a tricky transition.
I’ve been thinking about wedding favors for some reason from the moment we got engaged. I think it’s because my sister in law gave me the idea to give away pashmina shawls. We were going to order a bunch of them and then tie them on the back of chairs to look like ribbon/chair decorations. Then at some point in the night, we’d tell our guests what they were and to take them home as gifts. I was even going to get little labels made with our names and wedding date sewn on them. I eventually abandoned this plan as the numbers grew to 450-500. Also, I was feeling bad for not even attempting to include the men in the favor.
So, one day my mom and I were talking and we came up with the idea of doing something with tea. Sri Lankans and Indians alike are obsessed with tea so this seemed like a pretty perfect idea. Then Mrs. Onion posted about using adagio tea samples for wedding favors. I went on their site and ordered some samples, and they were adorable. I came up with this idea to do a Ceylon tea (Sri Lankan tea) and a Darjeeling (Indian tea) so it brings the two cultures together. I think I’m going to stick little Sri Lankan and Indian flags on them or something like that to make the idea clear.
