Truth or Dare.
Nail polish fumes.
Flying brushes and a flurry of bobby pins.
Sugar highs - and sugar headaches.
Popcorn-covered couches.
Crumpled up kleenexes and snotty sleeves.

Sounds good, right?

Due to *ahem* scheduling difficulties on Mr. Shortcake’s side of the family, our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner have been bumped back to the Wednesday evening before our Saturday wedding. As my bridesmaids would have to make a separate trip for these events, we decided to plan a little bridesmaid-bride bonding activity for immediately after the dinner.

A SLUMBER PARTY!

This party won’t replace my bachelorette (which will be held exactly one week before the wedding), but instead will just serve as another opportunity for my bridesmaids (who are mostly strangers to each other) to enjoy each other’s company. I’ve always celebrated my birthdays with slumber parties (my elementary school days routinely saw my parents overseeing 30+ screaming girls…eek! :) ), so it seemed like a natural choice to celebrate the end of my girlish youth.

::INGREDIENTS FOR SHORTIE’S SLUMB-AH PAH-TY::

FOOD:

  • popcorn
  • chips
  • candy
  • chocolate dipped pretzels
  • smores
  • ice cream
  • chocolate fondue with fruit and angel food cake

DRINKS:

pink mixed drinks

MOVIES:

Father of the Bride (Steven Martin version)
When Harry Met Sally
27 Dresses

I also took on a little DIY task for my party attire - the ubiquitous “Bride” tank top!

P102047

MATERIALS:

One pink tank top ($2 on clearance rack)
One sheet of pink felt ($0.28 at Michaels)
iridescent sequins (own supply)
pink embroidery floss (own supply)
Scissors (own supply)

1. I cut out the letters by hand, eyeing them, but you could just as easily print out a large font that you like, and trace the characters onto the felt.

IMPORTANT: Remember that your tank top is going to stretch to accommodate your body and bosoms - I measured my chest, then found a pillow with a similar circumference. I placed the tank top onto the pillow, then pinned the letters onto the tank while it was oh-so-realistically filled out!

2. Sew on your letter using a blanket stitch (http://primrosedesign.blogspot.com/2006/11/stitch-school-blanket-stitch.html).

3. Sew on your sequins (http://www.wikihow.com/Sew-a-Sequin-on-Fabric).

4. Wear with “bride pride”! (insert collective groan over awful rhyme, here)

Pink and sparkly, just the way I like it! ;)

Is anyone else having a slumber party before their wedding?

@fg6:
thanks for the heads up, fg6! I’ve been borrowing a laptop (complete with blogging bugs) as my laptop is currently in the trashcan (metaphorically, of course, I think it’s in Ontario now, getting replaced by HP) - so I apologize for any weird formatting. I literally COULD NOT fix anything on blogger today!

awww..i remember Girl Talk. lol!

i originally wanted a slumber party….then canned the idea bc i think i’ll be in super nervous, deep contemplative mode the nite before. but due to the high costs of rooms, i wont be able to afford to have my own private room away from my bms…..so the slumber party is back on.
