About Mrs. Pinot Noir

The Ring

July 2nd, 2008 @ 9:30 am by Mrs. Pinot Noir

Mr. Pinot Noir and I occasionally talked about what my engagement ring might look like. We went to look at engagement rings together a couple of times during the first year we were dating, but I never told Mr. Pinot Noir about any specific design that I wanted. My only requirement was that it not be too big! I don’t wear a lot of jewelry and I wasn’t comfortable with the idea of having a large or flashy ring.

Classic Tiffany Setting

Mr. Pinot Noir always told me that he loved the solitaire Tiffany setting so naturally this is what I expected my ring would look like. I liked the simplicity of the setting so I was happy with Mr. Pinot Noir’s choice.

It was important to me to avoid blood diamonds and Mr. Pinot Noir was lucky enough to have a family stone that he could use for my ring. His sister had a pair of diamond stud earrings that she had inherited from their grandmother, and she offered to let Mr. Pinot Noir use one of the stones for my ring. He took the stone to a jeweler in his hometown and designed the setting all by himself! The final product was a very unique and beautiful ring. It is made of 14k white gold with three stones in a prong setting. The band is also very unique in that the outer prongs of the outside diamonds create a second band on top of the first, resulting in a band that looks like it has a smaller band on top of the larger band. I tried to find a good professional picture of a similar band but it is so unusual that I couldn’t find anything like it!

Without further ado, my ring:

Mr. Pinot Noir had the other earring turned into a pendant for his sister as a thank you for giving him the earrings and for keeping me distracted while he was off at the jeweler!

How did your guy choose the engagement ring? Did you have any input in the design or was it a complete surprise?

It was a complete surprise. We had discussed me jewelery tastes months before but that was about it.
I have a simple princess cut diamond on a white gold ring and I truely love it.

It’s really beautiful and I love that it was already in his family. I actually wanted a ring just like yours but ended up with one more like the Tiffany setting, but just four prongs.

I love mine too now though :)

very beautiful Miss Pinot! Mr. Pineapple was also solely in charge of the ring and found something super unique. It makes me happy every time I look at my hand.

That’s a beautiful take on the 3-diamond ring! I actually looked at engagement rings with my little brother–it took us a couple weekends and he helped me pick the winner. I gave the info to FI and he purchased it and proposed within the next 6 months.

Your ring is gorgeous. My fiance surprised me completely with the ring (classic solitaire). I was so impressed that he picked it out himself because we never went ring shopping and I don’t wear enough jewelry to have a style.

OMG…I got engaged on friday and i had wanted the classic tiffiny setting like you asked for. Instead i got a round center diamond with bands of pave diamonds that wrap from one side over the top to the other side. It was totally flashy and totally perfect. I cant believe he changed what i wanted and did it so perfectly. I am now super excited t have my no tiffany setting ring. Its like a tiffany setting that underwent a makeover and now looks fabulous.

I love how he used the heirloom diamond… and thanked his sister. That was super-thoughtful on so many levels.

We picked it goether! From beginning to end. I know a lot of people think it’s not as romantic. But he KNEW how much I would enjoy shopping for it so he let me be involved. It really became a fun activity for us to do together and a little mysterious since we had to keep it under wraps from friends and family until he actually proposed! I wouldn’t have done it any other way!

I actually got the classic Tiffany brilliant cut solitaire ring for my engagement ring. My fiancé did months of research and decided to get me a Tiffany diamond because he heard horror stories of diamonds falling out and learned about how some stores make artificial diamonds, or enhance the diamond with lasers to remove flaws, etc. The size and shape is classic and perfect for me.

It’s absolutely beautiful! I gave my hubby (then he was bf of course!) a few pics of styles that I liked & told him my ring size and he picked out my ring all by himself! It was more beautiful than anything I could have picked.

Beautiful ring Pinot! My ring was also a total surprise. I had mentioned in the past what my favorite cut was, but nothing else. He found a jewelry designer who created a beautiful antique setting (my favorite setting, but I never told him :)) and incorporated a design very important to the both of us. It’s a perfect ring. And I love surprises! I also love that your fiance used an heirloom diamond - that means so much. It’s really beautiful!

He asked me, do you want me to surprise you or will we pick it out together. And then he sighed with relief when I said I wanted to be in on it.

Wow, what a beautiful ring! And, I love the story because it shows his sweet and sensitive side. My FI and I picked the ring together. The was my 4th choice! Yet, as soon as he saw “the ring,” he knew that it was perfect.

I “officially” got engaged on July 4th, so I share in your happiness right now. Congrats!
