About Mrs. Hydrangea

I know I’ve been talking a lot about gifts, but it’s the one task I know I can check off the list early, so I’m trying to knock it all out.

Mr. H loved all of your input on the groomsmen gifts and it sparked some major ideas - right now we are really thinking about Weddingbee reader KJ’s idea of customized Converse shoes, which we’d have the boys change into between the ceremony and reception, and maybe a pair of funky socks to go along with the gift. But this is the idea for today; try me on Monday, and it could be entirely different!

On another note, I have a big question regarding gifts. Did you all also buy gifts for your house party, ushers and readers? At first I was planning on buying them a small token of appreciation, but now I’m thinking that this might not be necessary.

What do you all think - aside from the bridal party and parents - who else do you think it’s nice to buy a gift for?

Love the shoe idea, Miss H! But I am dying to know what a house party is…

we’re buying smaller gifts for our friend who is providing live music (the musical equivalent of a reader) and our two ushers, as they are performing a service. :)

Miss H: Now might be a good time to post about the concept of a “House Party.” I have a co-worker from Texas who is astonished that the tradition doesn’t appear to extend outside the borders of the Lone Star State (with perhaps a few other Deep South exceptions), but I’m really curious about it, because I’d never heard of it before I started planning my wedding and she mentioned it.

We are buying gifts for our readers, our photographer (my cousin’s husband who is doing it for free) and my friend who designed our invitations as well as the standard bridal party and parents. We aren’t buying each other gifts though.

I am also curious as to what a house party is.

I have to warn you about the customized Converse– FI has a pair that he received as a groomsman gift in March, and they’re already in very bad shape. The sizing was way off (not what he usually wears in Chucks, which is weird) and the stitching has been coming off since day one. Now, this may have been a bad batch, but I’d be wary of ordering since the quality was so poor.

They are cute though!

My groom and the groomsmen wore Converse during the ceremony! I think those are a cool gift if the guys will wear them after the wedding.

We also are doing the converse shoes. We bought them for all our groomsmen and had our wedding date embroidered on the side.

I love the idea of the Converse sneakers.

We are buying gifts for the entire wedding party (bridesmaids, maid of honor, ushers and best man).

I would also like to know what a “house party” is!

We bought gifts for everyone including the bridal party, the officiant, the ushers, the people who managed our iTunes playlist all night, and even the mom’s of the flowergirls. I don’t think they have to be big gifts but I wanted to acknowledge those people who were helping to make our day special. Even a nice card would do I think…
