Free Magazines for Me?!

July 4th, 2008 @ 12:29 pm by Mrs. Milkshake

Who knew that I could get all this, from simply starting a wedding registry. Not all of them are necessarily this summer season, but who cares! All of us here, dating, engaged and married alike, all know how expensive bridal magazines are.  I was thrilled to get a measly heart shaped candy dish when I registered at Crate and Barrel, but Sears in Canada gave me visual reading material!

The Sears gun was so much more fun to use than the Crate and Barrel gun too, the latter of which required too much button pushing and not enough zapping action. In fact, it was so exciting, I inadvertantly hogged the gun the entire time, and Mr. Milkshake only got to do this one item at the end when I realized I hadn’t taken any photos!

In anticipation at a question I might get: I am told that it is not possible to access our gift registry on sears.com - only sears.ca. That way what’s bought in Canada stays in Canada and avoids any cross border shipping hassles should we choose to also register at Sears in the US.

I wanted an online-only US registry to avoid loading up the back of my pick up truck with blenders and toasters and attempting to cross the border, but I figured I owed it to anyone that wanted to physically go into a store and pick out something they saw firsthand. I really need to do the brunt of our registering at Macys, but I’m hesitating because if I start it online, maybe they won’t give me a free gift when I go into the store! It’s the Christmas child in me talking I think.

So I’m curious what free gifts each store gave you guys for setting up a registry there - the Bay, Linens and Things, Macys, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc - let’s here what you guys got!

I’m in Canada. Got zip from LNT, zip from the Bay, and don’t expect anything from Sears. Perhaps I should start asking??

Another Canadian here! I got a bunch of useless flyers from LNT, magazines and a pair of wine glasses from Sears and a pair of champagne flutes, free chocolate and a free parking pass (valid for up to a few months after the wedding) from William Ashleys in Toronto.

I registered at The Bay and got a 50$ gift cert. It was a promotion given to me by the Ottawa Bridal Show.

Now that I see your magazine score… I may head over to sears and start another registry… HAHA.

Another Canadian here. I got a whole whack of nothing from The Bay (unless you count that useless subscription that I did not sign up for to “2″ Magazine) and LNT.

I am in the U.S. but I got a red tote when i registered at Macys. I started my registry online and then went into the store and I still got the tote!

When we registed for items at Williams Sonoma, we got a paper to send in for a free small frying pan. We sent int he paper with a copy of our registry, but the frying pan hasn’t come yet.

I’m in the U.S. and we didn’t receive anything when we set up our registries at Fortunoff, Bed, Bath & Beyond or Crate and Barrel… only store magazines “suggesting” what we should register for.

When I registered at the Bay, they gave me one bridal magazine and a cookbook (there was a promotion on for Company’s Coming cookbooks)

Ooh, great question! We signed up at a bridal show and got a $50 gift card to the Bay. We also signed up with LNT in the U.S. and got nothing. I hadn’t thought about scouting out who is giving what away. I wish I’d thought of that!

I’m in the US (I guess with the holiday not too many of us are online reading Weddingbee :D ) and I didn’t get anything for actually starting the registry. I did get $25 toward a purchase of $50 or more for referring someone to BBB, a free knife from Henckel and measuring cups from AllClad after I put their items on my BBB registry and sent away for them.
