It wasn’t finishing the cake decorations at midnight on Thursday night. It wasn’t shopping for Sunday brunch on Friday at 3 pm, when we should have already left for Maine. It wasn’t finding out, four hours before the ceremony, that the venue’s generator had been struck by lightning and that they had been without power since 10 PM the night before. For me, the most stressful part of the wedding was the 30 minutes before it started– “the calm before the storm.” It was sitting there with the silent realization that nothing else could be done. It was knowing that if anything went wrong, or if we’d forgotten anything, we would be stuck.
Luckily, I had my two bridesmaids, a bottle of champagne, and the knowledge that in an hour’s time, clear sailing or wild snafus, we would be married…
