Take A Seat!

Now that our table cards were finished, it was on to the place cards! We opted for sweet, simple, and similar-to-our-invites! You’ll recall that we had used the Prima paper flowers on the main body of our invite. We also used them here, accenting them with small pink sticker gemstones (which should be available at any scrapbook store). I was also able to use the scrap piece of metallic cardstock that had been cut off during the construction of our pocketfolds! The simple how-to below!

Step 1. Create your template. Using MS Powerpoint, draw a rectangle in a light dotted line, 2″ in height and 1.75″ in width. Using textboxes, set your wording in place. I used LainieDay bold in 19 pt for the name, HighTower Text in 10 pt for “You are seated at”, and LainieDay in regular in 18 pt for the table name. Copy the rectangle six times across and then the entire row four times down.

Step 2. Enter all your names and table assignments! This is assuming you have already completed your table arrangements. We didn’t finish our table arrangements until the week of, so we were crafting these merely a few days before the wedding day!

Step 3. Proofread, print, and cut! Proofread all your names and table assignments. Print on Paper Source’s Luxe Glass Text Heavy paper. Cut along the dotted lines.

Step 4. Add your paper flowers! In this case, we used the Prima paper flowers in Small Peach. The easiest way to do this is to use Glue Dots. We actually laid out a long roll of glue dots and stuck the flowers on to the glue dots while the dots were still on the waxy paper. This turned the flowers into stickers, allowing us to quickly and easily peel them off and stick them on to the name cards!

Step 5. Add the gemstone. This was a little tricky because the sticker backing wasn’t too strong and lost its stickiness as soon as we took it off its wax backing. We ended up applying some simple white glue to the back of each gemstone by using the wooden part of a cotton swab.

This actually took a bit of work, not to mention some dexterous fingers! Here is a pic of my adorable family helping out, considering that it was only 3 days before the wedding and I was stressed like no other! That’s FIL Daffodil, Sister Daffodil, and Mommy Daffodil all helping out so diligently!

Step 6. Score the backing. Remember the piece of metallic spring green cardstock we cut off for the pocketfold? We used the piece that was left over from the pocket!

The dimensions of the backing should be 5.25″ x 2.75″. Score it down the middle lengthwise.

Step 7. Paste the name card onto the backing! I used acid-free photo safe double sided tape. It’s easy and cheap.

And you’re done!

@jheartc05: i used an inkjet! the inkjet printers work a lot better on paper source’s luxe collection papers. my exact printer was the canon mp530 pixma. it’s a bit big, but it works accurately and beautifully!

@SQ: if you are in MS Powerpoint, there should be a “draw” toolbar. click on the rectangle button and then you should be able to draw a rectangle but clicking, holding, and dragging.

if you don’t see the “draw” toolbar, go to view –> toolbars –> and make sure “drawing” is checked off.

once you have the rectangle drawn, you can right click and select “format autoshape” to change colors and lines.

then to copy it, you can select it, and hold down CTRL+SHIFT and drag it across! or you can just select it and do CTRL+C for copy and then CTRL+V for paste.

hope that helps!

@Joyce: lainieday is available for free online…here’s one link: http://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/Lainie_Day.htm
hightower text came with my ms office! if you don’t have that one on your computer already, you should be able to find it online on fonts.com but it will cost about $40.
