With What Ring?

July 8th, 2008 @ 7:35 pm by Mrs. Pomegranate

The first ring that truly “hit” me, was one of a set. It wasn’t so much that the ring was spectacular, nor the band, on their own - yet that they made a chic little pairing. Of course, these rings were found on website of the chicest of chic ring stores around: Tiffany & Co.

http://www.weddingbee.com/The Tiffany & Co. Etoile in White Gold.

With the Etoile collection, I got exactly what I wanted - simple and modern, with a twist. I mean, who doesn’t like polka dotted diamonds around a thick white gold band? The half-bezel setting in the wide solitaire band made me swoon as well. This set soon became the ideal for my dream engagement ring and band.

My engagement ring from Shane Co. in white gold.

Mr. Pomegranate didn’t stray too far - aside from the little blue box, my engagement ring is almost exactly what I first hoped for, and more! He decided not to go with the Tiffany & Co. solitaire for two reasons. One, the half-bezel band wouldn’t hold more than one carat (lucky girl, aren’t I?). Two, Tiffany & Co. jewelry is rather expensive to maintain - they charge you for a cleaning! This second fact has been disputed, but I’m not taking my chances. Mr. Pomegranate opted for Shane Co., which has a fantastic reputation for quality diamonds, gemstones, jewelry and customer service. So far, I’ve loved them!

Now, the Etoile wedding band looks so…ordinary to me. I’ve been on the hunt for a more extraordinary looking band - for if I could do it again, I’d design my own. Here are the wedding bands I’m toying with the idea of, most recently.

I always thought this Dior “Oui” ring would make a fabulous wedding band.

I love the “ball and chain” idea behind this - although, that’s only my interpretation as this is a right-hand ring.

These three sterling bands are so deliciously unique - but their composition and texture would surely clash with my band. I wish I could find something like this in white gold!

$220, $250, and $290 @ Sundance Catalog

Honestly, I still don’t think I’ve found “the one” when it comes to the wedding band - but I’ll keep looking until I do! With less than 3 months away, I need a wedding band, stat!

If you could pick your dream wedding band - what would it be?

gorgeous ring! i like yours better than the tiffany one! fyi, tiffany doesn’t charge for cleaning your jewelry (thank goodness!) I’ve taken my e-ring in several times (and to a couple of different stores) to have it cleaned for no charge. They also give you free stuff to use to clean your ring at home!

@furkids: I’ve heard that from some people - and from others I’ve heard that they charge a premium for their regular cleaning service (like $50). I guess it depends on the store location. :)

I thought these were cool. Traditional bands but with a secret twist…

I try to limit visits to the sundance website so that I don’t decimate my paycheck. I like that you’re going for a unique band.

The Eliza Page rings rock! Are you sure one of them isn’t your ring. You should ask them and see what they say!

T&Co charges to clean sterling silver, but not for the higher-end stuff (i.e. gold, platinum, and diamond jewelry). They’ve never charged me a cent for my e-ring maintenance and I like that wherever I am in the world, I can get that service. Otherwise, I don’t care at all about the “brand” :)

Some of those rings are amazing… I see so many couples that end up with boring rings, nice to see some nice ones!

My dream ring was the shared setting eternity band, my fiancee had one made at his jeweler that looks just like, just a bit bigger karat weight! I can’t wait to put it on my finger!!

just to add on to the tiffany and co comments: they will, in fact, service a ring that is NOT T&Co, but they only thing they can do is check the setting and clean it. they won’t polish or resize the item. I discovered this when i took my T&Co wedding band in for cleaning and the service rep offered the clean my non-T&Co e-ring!

The Jeanne Payer bands are amazing. I am definitely going with something engraved just like that… they are a little bit out of my budget though.

Pom- Would you wear both of your rings on the same finger if you got something like the Eliza Page rings? I have a band that I love, but it doesn’t lie flat with my engagement ring.

Also, you could always have something custom made. That’s the route that we have gone for both of my rings and Mr. P. We went to a smaller jeweler on Jeweler’s Row in Chicago and the prices are great. Let me know if you would like his info!

I was really into the Etoile style ring when I first started looking at bands. I later decided that it looked a little too modern for me but its still pretty. And you’re right Miss Pom, who doesn’t love polka dots?

I’m in love with the Diamond Garland wedding band from Blue Nile. Sadly, I don’t think it will go with my princess-cut diamond e-ring. I hope I find something I love as much as this to go with my ring.

Pom,
Thank you so much for this post! I am in the exact same boat you are right now with rings - I want something different and these rings are great inspiration.

If I had the choice I think I would like a custom made yellow gold ring with an other tone of gold in it. Either a thin line in the middle or something else, maybe with each gold in a different polish.

My friend has the Etoile e-ring and I could swear that thing is more than 1 carat… but anyway, the band is very thick so she actually chose not to wear a wedding band with it too.

I am wearing my dream band:

I posted a picture of my rings together in the Boards; I lovvve how they don’t match, but go together:

I had a lot of fun looking for my band - enjoy the hunt! But be warned, after you find the one, it’s really hard to endure the wait before you can put it on for good!

Years ago, I wanted Etoile as my wedding set. The whole Etoile line is so much fun–almost like polka dots! But when it came time to choose for real, I decided to use my late mother’s set: meaning beats “cute” any day. That’s why I like the idea of those Jeanne Payer rings–they’re cute and meaningful.

I got my wedding band from a great store in Brooklyn called the clay pot, they also have an online store. Most rings can be made in various metals. Good luck!! http://www.clay-pot.com

T&Co doesn’t charge to clean rings unless they aren’t tiffany rings (which makes sense, although i’ve heard of people having non-tiffany rings cleaned along with their tiffany rings). whenever i’ve been in, they’ve immediately offered to clean my ring, and they often also give me free cleaning solution. It is really good service. I’m sure other jewelers have fabulous cleaning services as well, but for all potential tiffany customers out there, don’t worry about general maintenence!
