Bridal Diseases

July 9th, 2008 @ 11:31 am by Mrs. Cupcake

I swear — the closer the wedding gets, the more mysterious ailments I have.

Saturday morning I woke up, showered, and was getting ready as usual, when I noticed that my left ear was all red and splotchy. Huh? How did that happen? It wasn’t around my earring hole, it was more at the bottom of my earlobe, and I couldn’t figure out what the heck was going on. I hadn’t slept with my earrings in, there was no sign of a bite, it wasn’t swollen, and it didn’t hurt. It was just icky-looking and red. Not very bride-like at all.

Mid-week, it’s a little better, but still red and more annoying then anything. I know I’ve mentioned that I’m klutzy so I am clearly expecting a few paper cuts and bruises to accessorize my wedding dress, but I’m really not in the mood for any more mysterious bridal ailments to make an appearance in the next 2+ months.

Have you had any strange bridal diseases appear as your wedding gets closer?

Reminds me of the post today on http://www.apracticalwedding.com — shows a bride in a cast, who had to be carried down the aisle!

Hope you don’t break anything, Miss Cupcake. :)

I had a lovely stomach virus surface last week (well, really, it started the Friday before that, right in time for my friend’s bridal shower). It completely killed my appetite and derailed working out that entire time (save for occassionally wanting bowls of pasta and ricotta cheese), but it seems to have finally gotten out of my system. Nasty little bugger….

I so symphathise three weeks to my big day I have insomnia, headaches and the WORST unslightly twitch in my left eye. I have no clue why. My skin is a disaster as well - I have resorted to no make up to make sure i don’t aggravate it!

Good luck :)

I know EXACTLY what you’re describing. Its from stress. I just got engaged recently and was stressed out about telling my parents. I woke up one morning with a red bump on my neck — same red bump as you have described. It doesn’t hurt or anything. Just not very visually appealing. I initially thought it was a bite too, but nope. It was stressed. Its SLOWLY disappearing since we’ve already talked to my parents and told them the news.

I know its hard, but just try to relax…

I had a zit that lasted for like 6 weeks. By the time a normal zit would’ve started to fade, this zit got bigger. Luckily the co-worker who did my makeup is fabulously talented at covering up stuff like that. It’s finally calmed down a bit, but I’ve never had a blemish last that long.

I was fine before the wedding and all through the day itself, but the day after on our flights to Mexico I was miserably sick. I had what I thought was a cold the entire honeymoon (hardly any beach drinks for me because I was drugged up on cold pills). When I got back, the cold turned into a cough which ended up being a raging case of pertussis (whooping cough). All my wedding guests had to get tested for it and I had a chronic cough for the first 8 months of my marriage. :( Yuck.

I was just talking (whining) to Mr. Shortcake about how there’s not enough/time/money/etc/etc and how I just wanted some time off of work so that I could work on our bazillion projects - and then I woke up with a nice and gooey case of pink eye this morning. :p

I got this mysterious rash on my left leg. It itched like crazy, but never spread anywhere else. Was there for a week! I also sprained my ankle and tore a ligament going down my stairs as I was leaving to try on wedding dresses. 4 months and $1,000 later, it’s starting to feel better, but I went ahead and bought wedding shoes with only a 1″ heel to try and prevent me from rolling my ankle again on my wedding day! Finally, I’ve broken out on my face again like high school. I assume it’s the stress and probably my caffeine intake to keep me awake! Just try not to worry about it; I’m sure it will go away soon :)

My wedding isn’t for another 10 months, but I will be using that time to get my Tinea Versicolor under control. It’s a splotchy fungal rash (similar to athletes foot) that extends from my bellybutton up to my throat and down my arms. And I’m going strapless…

Yup. A week before the wedding, I started breaking out (really badly) all over my chest and neck. I’ve never had that happen before.

Luckily, it calmed down some the day of the wedding, but it didn’t totally go away until after the honeymoon.

Yep - I just got a bad ear infection and have had so many this year (7) that I’m having to go to an ENT to see what’s up - hopefully I don’t have to have surgery or anything crazy this month before my wedding. And my FI just broke his foot! He is only supposed to have to wear the cast for 6 weeks, so we should just make it….we’re praying that he heals quick because he doesn’t want to have to wear a cast for his wedding!

During my bachelorette party, I broke out in hives shortly after having a jager shot…

maybe I’m allergic to jager? but I remember taking jager shots before in college and I was perfectly fine!

When most brides picture their wedding day, I imagine that they seem themselves smiling and happy. I see myself with my head in a puke bag, running for the bathroom.

I have severe IBS, and I don’t know WHAT is gonna go down, come wedding day and honeymoon. The fear of being sick only makes me sicker. :( Get that stress under control before it snowballs into a big sick fest!

I was shopping for shoes yesterday and banged my ankle against those mirrored stools that are all over shoe stores - HARD. At least I had the presence of mind to merely mouth the obscenities instead of barking them the way I do at home when something like that happens : )

To Abi: I attended a wedding several years ago where a similar thing happened to the groom. In fact, he was supposed to have his cast removed the day before the wedding - but then he slipped and fell on a slick sidewalk. He still had the cast removed, replaced with an air cast type of thing, which he was able to hide under his pants, and made it up and down the aisle without his crutches. I’m pretty sure his tears were of joy, not pain.

I think that wedding stress has given me IBS :/ I’m just eating my daily Activia yogurt and hoping for the best for the next month and a half!

I totally also developed a left-eye twitch about 2 months before the wedding! It’s gone now (almost 2 months after) but it was definitely acutely wedding-stress related. Our bodies just can’t keep up with our wedding-craziness.

Oh dear, lets see.

I have a twitch in my right eye that just started, a weird rash on both of my elbows, I broke my big toe so it’s hard to wear pretty much any shoe but flip flops, and my face is breaking out like crazy.

mtyf - I actually have a left eye twitch going on right now… so annoying. I think it’s for sure from stress!

Three days before my wedding, I woke up nauseous, and ended up spending about 5 hours hooked up to an IV in the ER. Despite several tests, the doctors never could figure out what it was, but they filled me with fluids and who knows what else. I slept for the next 18 hours. I’d been under a ton of stress at work and then planning the wedding, but I was so happy about getting married. I didn’t want to think that stress alone could make me that ill. I still felt off the next day, and it wasn’t until my bridesmaids got me out of the house for a quick dinner that I started to feel a bit better. I was up the entire night that Thursday finishing an assigment for work. I emailed it to my boss at 7:30 a.m., just in time to meet up with several of our guests for white water rafting. My mom said I was crazy to go, considering how sick I was, but I felt great the whole time we were rafting. During the drive back from rafting, I listened to my voice mail message, there was one from our photographer that he wouldn’t be able to make our rehearsal dinner - tummy hurt. Then my mom called to tell me that there was a problem with the flowers - more tummy hurt. I think you get the picture. Apparently, it was the stress causing the problem. The only real solution for me was to get away from the stressors. The morning of the wedding, I pretty much secluded myself and listened to some of my favorite music. Having those few hours was invaluable in getting me through the day. The wedding was beautiful, and my tummy stayed pretty well settled. However, it wasn’t until the reception was fully under way that I started to feel like myself again.
