Trying to plan a wedding in a new city, not to mention a new country, is tough, but the fact that we can get legally married here more than makes up for it! The wedding will be an opportunity for most of our family and friends to see our new city for the first time so it will be both a wedding and a reunion. Besides my future wife, I am also madly in love with a good bargain, Swedish pastries, Tivo, and my two dogs and calico cat (in no particular order).

Chiweenie Marteenies

July 10th, 2008 @ 12:00 pm by Mrs. Gingerbread

We weren’t planning to do a signature drink until we were at a Malaysian restaurant recently and noticed all the yummy sounding lychee drinks. We’ll give a little nod to the birth place of Miss GB 2.0 through a tasty alcoholic beverage, which will be named after a play on our last names.

For the kids, we’ll have Shirley Temples, but we’ll call them Chiweenie Marteenies after our two chiweenies, Abby and Henry.

Abby at the beach. Someone needs to get that poor Chiweenie a drink!

Gratuitous baby photo of our other Chiweenie, Henry.

Coming up with random names for the drinks has been really fun (probably because there’s no pressure, who cares if you don’t come up with a name!) If we were going for a whole menu of options we’d probably add an Ab(by)solutely Fabulous, Houndsome Henry, and a Haute Catoure Hannah to the mix.

If you are doing signature drinks, what are you calling them? Are you personalizing the names?

Not sure what’s yummier– your sig drinks or your pups. I’d never heard of Chiweenies– adorable!

I’m glad you went with lychee instead of durian. ;-)

Don’t tell, but your doggies are way cuter than the one on your link!

Mmmmm, I looove lychee. My mother-in-law introduced me and now I can’t get enough. :D And I love that you’re naming a drink after your puppies. Can I adopt them?? Please?

I just had to say that our puppy has the same toy your puppy has in the second picture and he LOVES it! We call it his “buddy” and when it’s heated up he knows that means it’s time to get into his crate for bed.

Yum, Lychee… I tasted this for the first time in South Africa last year. Not exactly a staple in Arizona markets : )

Lychee, yum! And totally cute pups! We did a play on our names too - “the shandrew”. I know - super cheesy, but the other ideas thrown around were “the goofy girl”, “the wahine”, “cougar bait”, and for some bizarre reason, my husband loved “the baby maker”. Everytime he’d say it, he’d just crack himself up. And no, we had no immediate baby making plans. I’m still confused over that one.

i still remember the night i drank homemade lychee vodka for the first time. i’ve thought about making a bottle just for me and lauren for the big fat day. not so much a signature drink as a private reserve : )

VanGal says:

Oh yum. Part of my name in Chinese actually means lychee and I’ve been contemplated having a lychee drink during our cocktail hour. May I ask which Van-city restaurant you were at? Thanks!!!!!

Mrs. Plumeria says:

Ahhhh SO cute. I just want to eat your puppies…. om nom nom!! We have the heat up toy too.. except we give it to Wicket empty since he likes to chew open the velcro back and get at the heating insert thing.

Abby and Henry thank you for the cooing and for appreciating their cuteness :)

@VanGal: We were at Banana Leaf: http://bananaleaf-vancouver.com/index2.html I think their lychee martini is called Dragon Eye or something like that. It’s really yummy, as is their roti canai.

@Mrs. Plumeria: Yeah, unfortunately Henry is a chewing machine, so he can’t have that heat up toy anymore :(

VanGal says:

Yum! I haven’t been to Banana Leaf in ages but I remember the food fondly (the sambal green beans and prawns was yum) . Well, this gives me an “excuse” to pop in again. Thanks again, Miss G.
