Fresh As a Peony

July 10th, 2008 @ 8:30 am by Mrs. Peacock

It seems like kind of a random thing, but people get really excited about their deodorant. There have been quite a few posts on Weddingbee as we worry about how to stay dry on our wedding day. We brides will be running around, smiling for the camera, hugging aunts and uncles, trying to sneak in private moments with our new hubby, all while trying to look and smell fresh.

My favorite? Kiehl’s Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant and Deodorant.

I love it because it smooths on like lotion- not a stick, gel or other goo- and absorbs into your skin. It doesn’t smell like anything. I don’t know about you, but when I warm up I would rather not be smelling my deodorant, even if it smells “tropical fresh.” It just fights sweat and I love it. The fact that it is Kiehl’s and I love all of their products doesn’t hurt. It is a little pricier than most drug store brands, but the big tube lasts for such a long time that I feel like it justifies the price.

My deodorant passed its first test last summer in Key Largo, Florida. It was 92 degrees and humid as it could have been without actual rain forming. I spent all morning laying out by the ocean and was literally dripping in sweat. Pretty picture, I know. You know how when you are on vacation, sometimes showers fall by the wayside? I put my deodorant on the day before and around 3:00 the next day it was still working.

If I was going to trust anything on my wedding day, it would be this deodorant. My dress might rip while I am putting it on, right before I spill red wine all over it. My florist might show up with a truck full of spray painted purple carnations. Mr. Peacock might decide to go for the Fighting Illini tux after all. But I will smell fresh as a peony.

Has anyone else really tested their deodorant? Don’t make me stand alone with my gross story. :)

i agree! i’m a huge fan of this deodorant. i love that it’s unscented, not heavy/flakey/thick. the only con is the price, but it’s probably more wasteful to pay $3 for drug-store brand deodorant that doesn’t even work well.

i have not tried it, but i definitely will…i’m always on the lookout for good antiperspirant. my doctor actually prescribed drysol for me because i sweat so much (:X), but it stings when i put it on at night and if i forget it at night, i sweat the next day. :(

i bought this after seeing it recommended on a board– and i’m beyond impressed! hot muggy summer in georgia hasn’t been able to beat it! and to liz– i’ve used drysol for years, but haven’t needed to since i started using the kiehl’- give it a try!!

Since this is a lotion, can you put it on your body? For some reason my back sweats (EW) and I am wondering if this would do the trick…

about a month ago i bought secret clinical strength after reading about it on weddingbee..i don’t use it every night anymore but lets just say i am currently living in singapore where its around 87 and really humid everyday and i’m dry as can be…the fact that it can stand extreme heat and humidity throughout south east asia make me confident it’ll last throughout my wedding day for sure!

I, too, have used Secret’s Clinical Strength antipersperant and was impressed with how well it worked compared to “normal” antipersperants. But the price of it is just slightly lower than the Kiehls 1.75 fl. oz. ($11.50 on Kiehls.com), so I think I’m going to give the Kiehls brand a try.

If you go on Sephora.com, there are a few brands that claim to be clinically strong against sweat ~ Bliss Under-Army is one of them that is “back by popular demand” ($18 for 2.5 fl. oz.), and although I can’t personally attest to it’s effectiveness, it sounds like other people loved it! Another brand is Total NonScents by Dermadoctor, which also comes in a skin-lightening formula to lighten dark spots under your arms.

Do any of these leave white marks on other people’s clothes when you hug them? That’s what I’m most worried about! Especially since my hubby is going to be wearing a black suit - I think it would be bad for him to have white marks on his shoulders!

It must be deodorant day– check out the front page article on Vital Juice Daily:

There is also a link at the bottom of the article to the Environmental Working Group’s comprehensive list of anti-perspirents/deos rating their relative health risks.

And, Miss Peacock, I will cop to being a gal who likes to test the limits of her underarm product by frequently letting “showers fall by the wayside.” ;)

Ooh I’m totally trying this too! They’re going to sell out after this post - all of the Hive will be flocking to Keihl’s to buy them out!

I second jma19’s question– white marks on black clothes? That’s my issue. I haven’t found anything that doesn’t do that– even the ones that claim to be non-marking still do.

As far as white marks, I will have to test that! It absorbs in like a lotion, so I would assume that as long as you rubbed it in enough, you should be fine. I haven’t found any others that do the trick.

I love Certain Dri. It’s sold at drug store, (rite aid, cvs, walgreens), and it’s about $3. You put it on at night before you go to bed, (so no worries about white marks on clothing.). It’s a roll on so you won’t even have marks on your PJs. When I put it on I don’t have to put it on again for like 2 days. It’s amazing. I used to sweat all the time and would be hesitant about wearing silk or other fabrics that really showed sweat stains but this is truly a miracle. Ok I sound like a commercial so I’ll stop now. Yep, I used this same deodorant on my wedding day. This stuff works.

Yeah, after reading people’s posts about Certain Dri, I decided to try it, and I love it too!!

Mrs. Plumeria says:

Hmmm. I just may have to go out and buy this stuff now. Do you have to use a lot, like lotion? Or just like a little dime size bit every day?
