The Invitations

July 10th, 2008 @ 3:45 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

Yesterday my friend, coworker and all-time favorite Pittsburgh sculptor, Tim Kaulen, shot some photos of our invitations so I could finally share them with you. (These web images, all of which you should be able to click to enlarge a little, don’t quite do Tim’s photos justice, but you’ll get the gist.) So without further ado:

They were made the old fashioned way with an ink jet printer, card stock and a whole lot of elbow grease. When you open the envelope there are two pieces: the primary invitation and a folder containing the details for the ceremony and reception.

The invitation design was inspired by this painting of a tree I made for our home (above). I thought it was a nice way to tie in something personal as well as the season.

This is a shot of the folder open. The inside is a copper pattern I have used on a few other wedding projects, such as return address labels for the save the dates. The folder contains four pieces: map/accommodations/directions card, reply envelope, reply card and an about Ryan and Emily card. (aka the Pineapples :) )

Here is a close-up of the about Ryan and Emily card. I wrote a little blurb about Mr. Pineapple and he wrote one about me. We thought this was a cute was to introduce each other’s guests to the other.

Here is the reply card, it is fairly straight forward. I have written out the names of the guests on the cards already. This way there is no confusion about menu selections and I don’t have to worry about people forgetting to write their names. Additionally, this should help avoid any confusion about who is invited. I made two versions of the card, one for couples and one for singles.

Here is a close-up of the downtown Pittsburgh map. The street grid is based on a triangle rather than a square… everyone is going to get lost. I put directions and accommodation info on the back of this card. We didn’t bother taking a photo of that side because it is purely text.

I cannot wait to send them out! I am about a month early, which is good because we don’t have a return address for the reply envelopes yet!

Did anyone else have to wait to send out their invitations because of a move?

Oh, they’re beautiful! I love that you based the design on something personal, and your cards look so sharp in the folder. The “About Ryan and Emily” card is just so darn cute too. Lovely work!

Those are great! I love the colors & how you incoporated those photos with the sleek design!

And super idea to have a little card introducing each of you to the folks who don’t know you yet!

Very nice invites - did you print them yourself, or have them printed at a printer? If you printed them yourself, how did you do the folder with the pattern on the inside?

Miss Pineapple says:

@Mary: yeah I printed them myself. I made sure to buy two-sided card stock (some have a finish on one side) and then used InDesign to make sure the inside and outside were aligned.

I live in Pittsburgh…you can give people all the cute maps you want. They’re going to end up in the North Shore or the South Side accidentaly. Just kidding. The invitations are really cute. Did you write people’s names in by hand on the response cards or did you print them?

furelysse says:

You mentioned that you printed with an ink jet printer? Those look really sharp for being ink jet printed. What kind of printer did you use?

Love everything about it. I really like the comment section you have on your RSVPs. We are getting ours back with a “scrunched in” note. They are just little comments about the invite or someone looking forward to the day. I wish I would have given them room and would have made a nicer momento.

Thanks ladies! I hope our guests like them too!

@furelysse: I used an Epson RX500

@naturejen: I wrote them out by hand. I have nothing against printing them though, it was just easier for me to hand write them.

when i helped my FI move to Pgh last summer, we spent the greater part of our week lost. lost as anyone can be. we took it in stride bc we were parting and the time together was precious.

i am a little scared to be moving there…..i have an awful sense of direction.

Did you print and convert the envelopes yourself as well or did you have them printed professionally? I’ve assembled my entire invite by hand, but am stuck on the lined envelope. I don’t know if I should trim out a template on a thin stock to spray mount inside the envelope, or if I should print the envelope flat and fold/convert them myself!

Miss Pineapple says:

@krys: I purchased envelopes and created a card stock template. I lined them with printed sheets of paper. i just used once piece of double stick tape along the top of the lining, i found this was the cleanest look.
