About Mrs. Pinot Noir

The Winner Is…

July 10th, 2008 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Pinot Noir

In a recap of yesterday’s green wedding invitation post, the finalists from Invitesite.com:

Orla

- OR -

Angelica

The winner is…

ANGELICA!

Like many of you, I loved the look of Orla from the website, but I chose Angelica over Orla for a couple of reasons. Back in December Mr. PN and I chose Angelica but then when it came time to order the invites I started having second thoughts. It felt funny to be sending out invites with fall leaves in the middle of summer…so I started looking at other options. I stumbled upon Orla and I loved the rustic feel and thought it was a great option. Invitesite allows you to order one free sample (great!) and I had ordered a sample of Angelica back in December. Since I had used up my free sample, my FSIL ordered a sample of Orla for me.

When the Orla sample came in the mail it was not what I had imagined. First, the paper was much more orange than brown. Second, the assembly and the opening of the Orla invitation was more complicated than Angelica. My FSIL opened the invite when it arrived but after she took it out of the envelope she couldn’t figure out how to get it back together again because of the twine tie, mango leaf and the funny folding of the outer layer. Finally, Mr. PN liked Angelica more, so we stuck with our first choice and I am glad we did!

What makes these invites eco-friendly?

  • All the paper (invite, envelopes, RSVP, info card, thank you cards) is made entirely from tree free paper and 100% post consumer recycled paper.
  • It was purchased from a small, California based store.
  • The RSVP postcard saves paper (and money) over the standard RSVP set of an envelope/reply card.
  • It contains one double-sided insert with basic information and our wedding website. We did not include extras such as a map, reception card, etc, since all of that information is on our website. The website saves paper and allows for easy updates.

The Budget

The ordering process with Invitesite was simple and everything came in the mail quickly. This is what I ordered:

  • 50 Angelica Invitations - $2.25 each = $112.50
  • 125 Matching Husk & Burgundy Thank You Cards/Envelopes - $0.85 each = $105.25
  • 130 Sheets of Husk Cardstock - $0.30 each = $39.00

Subtotal = $257.75
Tax = $0.00 (shipped from CA to NY)
Shipping = $14.00

TOTAL = $271.75

Here is the assembled invite!

*We tested a postcard by sending it from California to our home in NY. It arrived in less than a week!

Very nice! I’m enjoying your “earth friendly” adventures as I am trying to pull off the same thing. The invites are still a work in progress but I’m going the DIY route and trying to find all recycled paper from local stores to work with but this is turning out to be more difficult than I expected. Do you have any recycled cardstock sources?

Cute.

We did ours on 100% post-consumer content recycled card stock that I got from Kinkos (where we also had ours printed).

I got recycled envelopes from Office Max. It was wicked cheap.

We are doing RSVP post cards as well, and while the printed paper is only partially made with recycled material the outer layer that will wrap it is Lokta paper, a bush growing in Nepal that grows back fast. Not 100% environmental friendly, but we tried.

Oh and by the way I love invitesite, they really make beautiful natural looking invitations and were our inspiration for our DIY. I really like your choice too.

so lovely! we compromised and used a local letterpress business for our main invites, made the envelopes ourselves and are forgoing RSVP mail fun for website RSVP.

We did RSVPs by website and phone call only and pointed people to the website for all travel and map information. So the only thing we had in the envelope was the invitation itself! Maybe not super-fancy, but it saved a lot of money and paper.

pretty invites & I enjoy the environmental focus!

but, um, just wondering… how is buying from a “California based store” more environmentally friendly to ship to New York?

I live in CA, and don’t get me wrong–we’re friendly! And often environmentally so! I just missed the connection… ;)

That is a great question Brendalynn! It might have made more sense saying it as an independly owned and operated business which is usually better than major chains like Staples or Office Max. They have control over their business practices and make less of a negative impact on the environment. They even ban water bottles in their office and shop from the farmers market! we’re doing the same thing with the website shown on the invite and no little extras…it’s so easy these days to find all the info you need (directions, etc) online and i can’t think of one single person who will struggle to find our venue (yes, including my 83 year old grandma….even she has email!) Beautiful invites Pn!
