Venue Hunt Extravaganza

July 10th, 2008 @ 12:24 pm by Mrs. Avocado

I know that most of the Bees introduce their venues by sharing photos of the other places they’ve looked at, but I never actually looked at any venues in person. That doesn’t mean I didn’t do my fair share of hunting. In fact, I think I may have emailed every single venue on the west side of the mountains in Washington.

I took all of the information I gathered and compiled it into a handy dandy little vendor hunt worksheet. It’s nothing professional, but it was a fantastic resource to use when I was referring to places while talking to my parents and Mr. Avocado back when we were all living in different states.

I want to point out a few different locations that are a little bit under the radar, but came very close to making the cut.

The Hansen Place

So warm and pretty, but a little small and located too far away in Kitsap.

Knights of Columbus

Not sure I love the curtains, but look how pretty the chandelier is!

Lake Wilderness Lodge

Love the spiral staircase at this location that the bride comes down before heading down the aisle. What an entrance!

The Loft at Russel dean Lowell Catering

Almost had my deposit down for this location. I’m still a little sad that I’m not able to design the vintage rustic wedding I had started dreaming about as soon as I saw this photo.

Mount Baker Clubhouse

This was in my top three. I think this space is so great because it would adapt so well to many different types of weddings. I really like light and bright spaces.

Uptown Hideaway

Small, but intimate. The reception would have wound throughout the different rooms.

Hollywood Schoolhouse

A classic choice that most Seattle brides already know about. Apparently exposed brick is considered ugly in Poland, as Mr. Avocado was not impressed. We Americans consider it to be charming, don’t we? Or is it just me?

The Excel worksheet that I created includes all of the DOC and catering that I collected.  All of this information was collected in March and April of this year so it should be up-to-date. It really helped me in my decision making process, I hope it helps you with yours. You can download it here:

All photos found on the websites of their respective venues.

That is the nicest Knights of Columbus EVER!! I’m Catholic, I’ve been in a ton. I’ve never seen one so nice…seriously. The ones in my area are hideous 60s/70s era wood-paneled bingo halls. I didn’t even consider them! How lucky you were to have so many fabulous places to chose from!

So cute! I totally understand planning a wedding in Washington far away…I’m doing it from Denver! I’ll be getting married at Kiana Lodge on the Kitsap peninsula in August!

Totally agree with haselwant - that IS the nicest Knights of Columbus hall ever.

I’m not a Portlander, but I think EVERYONE (except your husband) likes exposed brick. :)

@haselwand: @katya: I was so close to booking this place, but then I had to switch dates and they were unavailable. I never saw it in person though…..so maybe this is just some really great photography?
@Melissa: Kiana lodge is absolutely gorgeous, and one that I didn’t come across in my hunting. So many hidden gems out there!
@Julia: I hope it helps you, let me know if you have any more questions!

I am trying to plan a Seattle wedding from Houston and it sounded so easy at first…..
