Accessories Part 1

July 11th, 2008 @ 8:30 am by Mrs. Hydrangea

I had mixed emotions when it came to the garter toss. Part of me wanted the tradition in the wedding, and part of me thought it was one of those wedding traditions that I could live without. While on the phone with my mom one day during my lunch break, I was telling her that I thought this was something we could leave out of the wedding, when my boss yelled from her office that I shouldn’t take the fun out of it and that I should keep it in. That, combined with Mr. H wanting it in the wedding, made me decide to go ahead and order a garter.

I knew I wanted something simple, so I searched around and decided on a simple garter from the Garter Maker. When I came home from my daily walk and grabbed the mail, it had arrived. I was eager to see if the navy blue and ivory I had selected would match my other accessories and the dress. Lo and behold, I think it came out quite nicely.

When I opened up the UPS box, it was nicely wrapped with a cute little bride on the sticker!

The finished product! I opted not to have our initials put on it, as we won’t be keeping it when the day is done. Seeing it now, I almost wish that I had opted for the two garter option: one to keep and one to toss.  But I know it would end up stuffed in a drawer somewhere, and eventually lost among all of our things.

The garter on top of the bottom of my dress to compare the ivories.

All of the accessories: shoes, purse and garter. I think it all comes together quite nicely!

Did you have doubts about doing the garter toss but eventually decided to do it?

I love all of your accessories! I’m a Navy bride as well, but I couldn’t find any blues shoes anywhere! So I opted for a pair of pink shoes I own but never wore. I’m now on the hunt for a pink garter (got the fuchsia pink clutch already).

i didn’t want to do a garter toss, so i didn’t have one at the reception. our relatives decided we HAD to have a garter toss, so they made me one out of a table napkin! oh family. :)

Wow, that matches beautifully!

I’m not a big fan of the garter toss. I just don’t love the idea of FH being all up in my skirt in front of my grandmothers, y’know? That said, it’s a big deal/tradition with his family, so we’ll probably find some sort of compromise that holds up the tradition without mortifying me.

Am I seeing that correctly- do you have a pair of Louboutins for yo wedding shoes? Oh, the envy!

I didn’t want to do the garter toss, but my fiance’ did, so we decided we’d do it. Then I had the idea to instead present the garter to our friend (a GM) who introduced us to each other. He’s single (and quite eligible) and gave us a super duper gift, so we thought it fitting. We’ll probably put it in a small shadow box with a picture of the three of us and a note of thanks for him and surprise him with it at the reception just after the BP entrance and intros. I’m super excited. This way, we get the garter (and my fiance’ gets that part he wanted) but no climbing under the dress in front of my boss and my grandmother. Perfect.
