About Mrs. Gingerbread

Dinner is Served

July 11th, 2008 @ 11:45 am by Mrs. Gingerbread

One of the great things about having our reception at a restaurant is that our guests will get to decide what they want to eat when they get there! Here’s what we’ll be serving.

First Course

Roasted garlic caesar with light lemon vinaigrette and shaved parmiggiano
or
Herb crusted crab cake, sauce remoulade

Second Course

Squash ravioli, brown butter and sage sauce
or
Pan roasted sablefish, honey and soy glaze
or
Beef tenderloin with brandied peppercorn sauce

Third Course

Creme brulee with biscotti
or
Traditional tiramisu with creme anglaise

Fourth Course

Wedding Cake

Oh boy, a dinner with a dessert course followed by more dessert. That’s my kind of meal. :) Originally, the dessert choices were 1) mascarpone and raspberry cheesecake, framboise and shortbread crust or 2) warm banana and chocolate bread pudding, chocolate liquid center, and vanilla gelato. Sounds delicious, but I thought cheesecake or bread pudding would be pretty heavy to eat before having wedding cake!

I am a huge fan of sablefish AKA black cod so I am really excited that this is one of our main course options! According to the Canadian Sablefish Association, sablefish is one of Bon Appetit’s top ten hot food picks. Ooh, how hip of us.

Hi sablefish. I can’t wait to eat you again!

What item are you most excited about on your reception menu?

I am not a fish eater, but after trying the salmon that is going to be part of our buffet, I may have to rething that! It’s so amazing!!! The beef is also going to be spectacular!

I have to say though, I am very jealous of your squash ravioli with butter sage sauce, it’s one of my favorite things in the world!

Our reception was at a restaurant too! I promise you guests will rave about it being the best wedding meal ever! :)

Your menu looks so yummy!
I am actually not all that thrilled with our menu. It is a little more “American grill” than I would have liked, but my FI and his family really love that sort of food, so that is fine by me. I won’t actually get to eat much of it anyways.
BUT…I am excited about 2 things:
1. Mozzarella, with ripe tomatoes and basil in the appetizer buffet. OH YUM.
2. The wedding cake that my best friend is making. She is creating a white cake with to die for caramel filling and a swiss meringue butter cream frosting, layered with white chocolate ganache. OH DOUBLE YUM!

ooo…I too am a fellow lover of Sablefish…that picture is seriously making my mouth water!

As for us, I think I’m most looking forward to is the Almond Encrusted, Brioche something or other, fancy schmancy French Toast - I love breakfast foods and am sooo excited that we’re having a Brunch reception! :D

@lunapark: Mmm, brunch! What a fantastic idea. I’ll file that away in the “wedding ideas I wish I’d had” file :)

@Gerby: Your cake sounds AMAZING!

Those look SOOOO fantastic. Are you trying to provide for the vegetarians in the bunch??

if so…. caesar dressing *usually* isn’t vegetarian - it contains anchovies.

Not trying to be a bummer (just trying to help)!

@lyndsay: Doh! You’re right. I’m a pescatarian so you caught my blind spot. Thanks for mentioning it. I’ll bring it up to the restaurant and see if they can provide another option. Thanks!

That picture is making me wish I had more than frozen peas, year-old hot fudge, baby carrots, bread, and soda in my refrigerator right now. The sablefish looks *amazing.*

We haven’t had our tasting yet, but thanks for reminding me to e-mail the caterer! :-)

@Miss Pomegranate: I’ll have to instruct our photographers to get photos of the food so that I can do a food porn recap after the wedding! Mmm, food!

Our appetizer was Honey Mustard Glazed Hot Smoked Salmon on toasted Israeli Couscous with sweet peppers, zucchini and butternut squash, citrus buerre blanc and crispy pickled shallot rings. Everyone RAVED about our appetizer more than anything else at the wedding. It was awesome. I still dream about it.

Um, can I come to your wedding? That menu sounds absolutely delicious.

Our cake was amazing, but I didn’t get to eat enough of it. Almond cake alternating with chocolate cake with alternating chocolate buttercream and one layer of butter cake with fresh chopped strawberries in the European buttercream.

*drools*

yum yum and a little more yum with a side of yum

we are total foodies, so our big splurge was on the caterer - the tasting was amazing and we could not be happier!

miss purple says:

Delish!!! But baaad news for people like me who are culinarily indecisive - too many amazing choices! Ha ha. (Just teasing, as usual.) Definitely hip.

25.
Jess says:

Wow! They all sound fantastic! I would have trouble picking out what I want if I were your guest! I’d make my fiancé get the other choice so I could have a taste! haha!

And I think it’s a great idea to let them choose on the spot. I went to a wedding where all of my table mates wanted the OTHER option, than what they picked out 2 months before.

26.
Sara says:

Sounds yummy! I am most excited about having traditional Louisiana foods at my wedding - ettouffe, jambalaya, meat pies, and fried turkey! Yes, there will be a few veggie options too, but that isn’t exactly traditional.
