Falling in Love with Birds

July 11th, 2008 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. Coconut

I’m totally falling for the bird trend. I just love birds. I’ve been trying to nail down a certain “feeling” for our wedding, to aid me in designing our invites and programs. This has probably been the most difficult part of planning because I’m such a stickler for tone and feeling. Who knows, I think I may have serious problems.

I’ve got the color, that’s yellow. Bright, cheery and natural. And now, I just have to have birds. I have no personal connection to birds, except when I look at them, they make me happy. Isn’t that enough?! ;)

(Can’t remember where I got this!)

I’ve tried so hard to stay away from “trends,” but I’m starting to think they’re not so bad. As long as you take it and make it your own!

Has anyone else had trouble attaching or detaching themselves from a trend?!?

you should check out this stationery (if you haven’t seen it already!) from elum.
http://elumdesigns.com/shop/letterpress-desk-sets/aviary-desk-set/
they have matching gift wrap too, if you’re diy-ing any of the decorations.

Lauren Alane creates some of the cutest felted birds I’ve ever seen and will custom make your cake topper. They’re adorable! We were thinking of getting one ourselves (and we don’t have birds anywhere else… they’re just so cute though!)

The photo booth! I can’t get enough of it, and I will definitely be having one at my own. I am the girl who will sometimes purposely not doing things because they are trendy, but this is one I can’t shake myself loose from. Go with the birds. I don’t think you will ever regret it. Just like I won’t regret all of my fun pictures.

One thing to remember about trends is that even if every person on Weddingbee has seen the bird theme several times, most of your wedding guests probably won’t be in on the whole wedding trend thing. It will just look cute and fabulously creative to them…because they haven’t seen 1 million Ann Wood cake toppers ;-)

Cupcakes. Damask. Yeah, I follow trends! Who cares!? It’s your wedding day and if you like birds and bird related decor - go for it! I think all of those are adorable!

I was so anti having a candy bar because it seemed like everyone else was having one (even though I LOVE the look of each and every one!), but then I began to fall in love with the idea of having a cookie bar with home made cookies made by each of the ladies in our family… sigh… I think I saw cookie filled jars in a Martha recently and that’s what set me off! Who knows what I’ll end up giving in to. :)

Its so funny, I had so many ideas that I thought were original or just slightly used, and then I began to read wedding blogs and realized that damask, birds, vintage, and even my colors of robins egg blue and chocolate brown with cream is not original at all! but how can I resist?

Jennifer is soooo right. When I start to get frantic about being unique, I just remember… no one I know reads as many wedding blogs as I do so really, what’s ‘trendy’ to us will be a novelty to them!
