It’s Shoe Voting Time!

July 11th, 2008 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Candy Corn

Thanks to the hive’s shoe suggestions, I’ve managed to narrow my options down to the following four pairs of shoes. If you have additional suggestions, please feel free to let me know but just remember I am new to this heels thing and would prefer kitten heels! :)

Option 1: $48.00 by Dollhouse

Option 2: $59.00 by Chinese Laundry

Option 3: $69.00 by Dollhouse

2957l

Option 4: $56.00 by Colorful Creations

As a refresher, here is a photo of my dress (which is super light ivory) and accessories (just ignore the shoe part since those aren’t dressy enough):

So, which shoes do you guys vote for?

It’s a toughie– they’re all so cute! I went with #2 because they seem more bridal to me. 1 and 3 are cute, but they’re too everyday to wear at a wedding.

Miss Gingerbread says:

I think your shoes (especially because of the length of your dress) need to have as much personality as you do, so I vote for #1. Bonus because they are also the least expensive and look the most wearable for someone who isn’t used to heels :)

3.
missbean says:

I went with 1, for it’s super cute. I think either 1 or 3 would work best with the whole “vintage-y” feel.

4.
Laura says:

4!!!!

Its just right. Not too much, not too little. And it won’t take away from your amazing vintage find of a dress!

I really like it in the off white/ cream

5.
shannamt says:

oooh I love both one and 2. I ended up voting 2 because I think they will feel more bridal for the ceremony. But I think 1 would be great for dancing. They are so darn cute!

6.
laura says:

I picked shoe #4 for two reasons: 1) because the ivory color is a very close match to your dress, and 2) because being simpler than the other shoes it lets the focus stay on the mazing detail in the dress.

7.
Kim says:

Ah! I am so glad you went for my idea for t-straps! Totally love the ones you chose! And see, even people who didn’t chose 3 ALMOST did… :)

8.
lou says:

Hmm, I’m between 3 and 4.

3 have the vintage look I think you’re going for, and the heel looks nice and sturdy, but they may be too dark.

No. 4 is really cute, and the ivory looks like it goes really well with your dress. Plus I just like peep-toes with short dresses (see Mrs Onion).

Will you have a chance to try them on with the dress? That’s the trouble with short wedding dresses - the shoes matter a lot more!

9.
Abbie in CO says:

I have shoe #1, and sometimes it rubs my achilles. You should definitely break them in if you go with them.

10.
LaborDayBride says:

While the other shoes are cute and could work, shoe #4 knocks it out of the park!!! it would be so chic and actually pull the look together they way you want it to. I love the idea of the mary jane and or t-strap but i think those MJ’s and TS’s are not quite enough for your dress.
Could you die #4 to a very pretty pale shade of blue to go with some of your blue and brown colors? Not bright blue and not turquoise but just a pale barely there blue…. would look awesome.. in MHO. :)

11.
turtle says:

I think 3 is best because it goes with your whole vintage feel, but also will give you a nice little boost in height and dressiness. All the options are great though!!

Miss Avocado says:

Nooo, I want 1 to win! You want the kitten heel, and I think they will match the dress so well.

Also, what is this I keep hearing about things needing to look “more bridal”? I say, you are the bride. Things you wear on your body inherently become bridal because you put them on. Don’t be uncomfortable teetering around in heels because other people tell you that you should be!

Miss Candy Corn says:

Thanks for your votes guys! 1 & 3 are the shoes that are most “me,” so I’d be happy with either.

@Miss Avocado:
Yeah, I never got the whole “more bridal” thing myself. If the bride has blue hair and a black dress on, she’ll still look bridal because she’s the bride and can own it since its her day and she’ll be glowing whether she’s in off white or not :) I get what people mean, but I disagree that one shoe that is bridal for one person is the same type of bridal for another. I make no sense in my babbling!

Mrs. Toucan says:

wow… it’s a dead heat so far! I voted for #4, but I had a really tough time deciding between that and option #1. I only picked #4 because the color of the shoe (the cream one) can be dyed to match your dress better.

Miss Candy Corn says:

@Kim:
Woot, I have a new love for t-straps thanks to you!!

16.
QuirkyParsnip says:

I think number 4 is perfect to complete the look. They won’t compete with the dress but simple accent it. 1 and 3 while adorable just seem like they would be to busy, especially with the dress and accessories. BTW so happy you are going with that dress, I love it so hard.

17.
MissCamera says:

May I suggest 2 more options for you viewing pleasure? ;)

This is a really cute pair of strappy sandle-like heels, but may be too high of a heel for what you’re looking for:

http://www.target.com/Isaac-Mizrahi-Target-Strappy-Jeweled/dp/B000UJOUCU/qid=1215790231/ref=br_1_5/601-3181744-9700115?ie=UTF8&node=3667021&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=3667021&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=3

And these are a cute kitten heel sandal with a little feminine bow:

http://www.target.com/Isaac-Mizrahi-Target-Georgina-Faille/dp/B000MFJOM8/qid=1215790151/ref=br_1_16/601-3181744-9700115?ie=UTF8&node=3667021&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=3667021&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=2

I think both would go well with your gorgeous vintage dress! Good Luck.

18.
HC says:

I really think an off-white shoe would be better than pure white with your dress color, so I voted for 4. I do love 1 and 3 but in looking close they look, well, abused. Not just vintage, but worn, and too white.

19.
Krista says:

You want the shoes, which will be visible, to look almost as good as your dress! I voted for 3, but I liked 4, too. I think #1 isn’t “enough” for your dress! And #2 isn’t vintage enough. Don’t worry, I’m not good in heels. #3 and #4 aren’t that high, and they look like they have enough support. Consider the height and support of the heel. I think #3 and #4 will be okay! :) Good luck!

20.
Jackie says:

#4 looks classic and won’t take away from your detail fab dress.

22.
meena482 says:

I have shoe #1, and they are the worst shoes I have ever bought! The heel broke off the first time I wore them! I then wipped out in the gocery store, because they were uneven and slippery. I could have got a lemon, but I just thought I would pass a long my experience.

23.
Tiki says:

Did I miss something? Are you not wearing both dresses??

Love #1 and love the Target ones too! Can’t beat the price either.

24.

Miss Candy Corn says:

@Tiki:
Hi Tiki!

I’m going to be wearing dress #2 (the shorter vintage one) now because the alterations on the first dress would’ve ended up costing me several hundred dollars and since I’m recently unemployed, I had to just suck it up and go with the one I liked more, which is this vintage one :)

Thanks for the advice!

25.
Michele A says:

I picked number 4 because I love the pleating, but I love the target shoes! Very cute!

26.
Miss Teacup says:

although I LOVE option 1, it seems to be more of a distraction than a compliment to the dress. I think 4 is your best bet. That dress is awsome and that should be the focus.

27.
GorgesViola says:

I voted for #1, but meena482’s story scares me!! So I change my vote to #3, which was giving me nasty looks when I voted for #1 anyway. I really like #3’s spats-type detailing and the kind of antiqued leather.

Also, as someone who used to wear higher heels and now can’t because of an injury, I think the cone-type heel (or a kitten heel or wedge) will be more stable and comfortable for you than a tall, skinny one like #4. If you don’t wear heels very much, you should probably go with 1.5″-2.5″ at the most. You can always practice in higher ones, but I’d imagine you’re still not going to be thrilled with how they feel with 3 months of practice… and then you’d end up changing into the inspiration-board flats later, anyway! :-)

28.
nerdherd says:

I vote for either of the Dollhouse ones, and as a side note, I’ll say that I had a version of #1 a few years ago and they were the most comfortable kitten heels ever. I wore them walking all over San Francisco and only finally gave them up when I’d worn the heels into nubs and the sole was starting to crack.

29.
GorgesViola says:

(I know #4 doesn’t look very tall to a lot of people, but it makes my ankle recoil in fear! :-) )

30.
Jennifer says:

I think #1 is perfect! And it is so your style…

31.
Carin says:

if you are not a regular heel wear, don’t go taller than 2″. it’s an acquired talent, seriously. i looked very un-elegant and “clompy” when i first started wearing heels.

32.
mdarrah says:

#4!!! They arent really tall but they arent “blah” either. I like 3, but I think it’ll be too busy with your fun dress! 2 is fun as well, I just think 4 compliments your style a little better. And 1… cute… but with the overall look - i think you might end up looking like a 5 year old.

33.
T says:

1 or 4 will look lovely with your dress. I have a black version of 1 and still wear them years later, even if one of the heels is but a nub at this point!
… gotta say, am not a huge fan of #2 or those new Target shoes. Meh.

Miss Pomegranate says:

#3!! I looooove the vintage-y T-Strap! It’s adorable and will work soooo well with the style of your dress.

35.
lindsey says:

4, definitely 4! The other are too casual.

36.
danielle says:

I really love #1! As a fellow short dress bride, you must remember 3 things:

1. everyone can see your shoes so make it something that you love and shows YOUR personality

2. it will be a long evening and switching into flip flops won’t be as easily concealed as a non-short dress bride so it is best to choose a shoe that will last the entire evening

3. I know that you were struggling to justify spending money on a second dress in leiu of your circumstances- so I think that it is smart to choose a shoe that can be worn again… often in order to offset the cost. (much like your GORGEOUS vintage gown which I would find a million bigillion reasons to wear weekly).

Can’t wait to see it all come together.

37.
BaghdadBride says:

go with the most comfortable…all look cute.

38.
MissCamera says:

I personally think you should go with the vintage looking strappy sandals from target, but then again.. I did recommend them ;)

39.
sara says:

No. 3 for sure! They are adorable and wonderful and will match your dress.

Miss Cupcake says:

I voted for #2! And I love the Target ones, but I’m not sure how comfy they’d be all day…..

41.
SRH says:

I own pair #1 in brown. I love them. I am not a huge heel wearer so the fact that I can go a whole day in these is big time!

42.
aroundthewaygirl says:

It was so hard to choose btwn 2 and 4! I love these polls.

43.
lulubelle says:

Ooh, now that I’ve seen the Target heels, I change my vote!

44.
katze says:

I voted Shoe #3 because I actually find shoes that height, and that have straps like that, easier to walk in than Shoe #1 (and someone said they had problems with Shoe 1)! I don’t think they’re too casual, and I think they will be more comfy than the Target ones. Only concern is that color-wise they won’t match the dress, maybe?

45.
Sarah says:

I may need to get #3 myself. Those are sweet.

46.
MissCamera says:

Does anyone really wear their heels all night? Every wedding I’ve been to the shoes are on for the ceremony, the pictures, and around dinner are switched out for flip flops or bare feet. Why punish yourself more than you have to. I have yet to find a heel thats actually “comfy”.

47.
HCB says:

@Miss Candy Corn: I voted for #4. BUT - I LOVE that option that MissCamera posted. The Laurel Isaac Mizrahi shoe! That would have been my vote.

48.
Lyn says:

i liked #3 initially, but thinking about it with your dress and accessories might make everything too costume-y. and that dress is so beautiful, it doesnt need anything competing with it - my vote is for #4!!

49.
staceyb says:

i like number four the best, but if you’re new to heels, that ankle strap really helps, which made me vote for number two. :)

50.
goodvoile says:

I voted for #1 because they are cute and looked like you to me! They have a vintage vibe going, more so than the others. The Target ones are cute, too, but they don’t look as vintage and appropriate for your look as #1.

I also thought the lower heel might be better for you — it would for me! Hope this helps!

51.
doctorgirl says:

Shoe number one seems like your style (from what I’ve seen of you so far) and seems to go best with the dress in my opinion.

I’m so happy that you picked that dress!

52.
miss m says:

#1 - so adorable and not too busy for the dress. they seem so you! they also seem light enough to go with the dress. i’m smitten with t-staps, but #3 seems a bit too heavy for the lovely lace detailing on your dress.

that said - you’re the bride - get shoes you’ll like and that will be comfortable. as others have noted, it will be very obvious if you switch to flip flops later on. :)

53.
miss purple says:

#2 is on my list too! (as my back-up shoe… in purple, natch). Looks comfy. However, I voted for #3 as it they’re really unique and match the style of your dress perfectly. Not to mention kitteny but not tooooo short of a heel (like #1).

54.
alexinwonderland says:

I know you are inundated with suggestions… and these heels are probably too tall, but they totally remind me of the flats you have and they are super cheap!

http://www.gojane.com/26066.html

55.
Cole says:

#4 is super cute and vintage pinup-y!
#2 is also very adorable.

56.
peapod says:

I voted for shoe #1. But I think shoe four is an ok option too, I just worry you wouldn’t be as comfortable in it. While as everyone mentioned you probably can’t switch to flip flops, I do think you could bring your original flats as a back up shoe and get by with it later in the night if your feet are killing you. After all, you *are* the bride.

57.
stephanie says:

I go for option #2. Very adorable, cute kitten heel, great price!
