Making Our 1000 Dreams Come True

July 11th, 2008 @ 1:58 pm by Mrs. Avocado

After working at a destination winery in the catering department, I loved the idea of a hotel, but most of them were prohibitively expensive. I found a place that had a deposit of $8000, which was basically our entire venue budget. I decided to email a few different places I had ruled out previously, and Hotel 1000 in downtown Seattle was one of them.

I have worked at one of their sister properties, Cave B in central Washington, for the past two summers now, and had the opportunity to stay at Hotel 1000 on my employee discount once before. I loved the location, the interior, and the food, and was delighted to learn that not only were they available, but they fit within our budget as well!

Here is where the “utilizing your resources” concept that I mentioned in my profile came in. I made sure to mention that I had worked at Cave B, stayed with them, and that we wouldn’t be having alcohol at the wedding. The catering director, Kristin (who is an absolute dream to work with) offered us a discount based on my employment connection and the lack of alcohol. The saving are close to $1000!

So my advice to all of you, is don’t be afraid to be flexible and ask for discounts. Ask about having your ceremony and reception just a little bit earlier or ask when slow season is. If you have a friend or family member who works at a potential venue, ask if there is a friends and family discount available. For me, it made the difference, as I was able to find a location we could afford without feeling like we were making a sacrifice.

Of course you are going to get a photo tour from me:

Guests step off the elevator onto the 4th floor into this room, which is almost completely dedicated to our event. My favorite thing about this space is how guests will flow from one room to another throughout the night.

The day I took the tour a convention was happening so it was hard to get good photos of the ceremony space. It’s a completely enclosed glass atrium with bars that we will be able to hang votives from. Guests will have a beautiful view of downtown Seattle during the ceremony.

After the ceremony we’ll walk right through this doorway from the ceremony room into my favorite room….

I can’t remember if they call this the Great Room or the Library, but I think it’s gorgeous and cozy. Guests will cycle through here and wish us their best; hopefully they won’t stay very long because the delicious appetizers will be circulating in the next room drawing them away from me and my new husband (I want to talk to them, but just for a few seconds, as I want to enjoy our own reception as well).

The room for dinner, and my bad attempt at darkening the photo to get some idea what it will actually look like that night :)

The decor in the lobby and surrounding areas should provide for some moody and artistic photos between the two ceremonies.

The best part about using a hotel? Being able to stay in a room for our wedding night that we never could have been able to afford otherwise. The tub fills from the ceiling; it’s the coolest bathtub I’ve ever seen!

Anyone else have a venue they would have written off as impossible to afford? How did you take advantage of your resources to cut costs?

That looks amazing!!! I’m so glad you were able to find such a great place within your budget. All the lounge-y areas look so cozy, and your guests will really appreciate that. And the guest room looks awesome!

COOL VENUE!!!

I ruled out my dream venue b/c of the price (but now I wish I had tried some negotiation skills out b/c you are proof that it works!)…it was DeLille Cellars in Woodinville

I stayed at the Cave B Inn (last summer) and Hotel 1000…and the thing I love about both places were the on site spas (or as Hotel 1000 calls it, the SPAHHH)…I love the Decleor products they use for their facials…really makes my face glow for days and days afterward.

Isn’t Hotel 1000 gorgeous? We had our ABC/ISES combined meeting there and it was gorgeous.

We saved money by not having alcohol too and having a Friday wedding which was really nice since we weren’t initially going to pay for our venue.

I negotiated our minimums down by 5 grand by having the wedding on a Friday instead of a Saturday. It never hurts to gush about how much you love the place, but that its out of your price range and then ask how the price could be lowered!
I think it works with all wedding vendors: so far we’ve negotiated with all of them and received some sort of discount.

Oh! Almost forgot… I thought that you were having your ceremony at Temple. Is that out now? The ceremony space is beautiful there!!! I keep fighting in my own head over the ceremony space at the hotel or a church.

@indecisivebride: Isn’t Hotel 1000 fantastic? I’ve worked there as a waitress in the restaurant for two summers now, and I’ll be back again starting in August. I’m really hoping I can get the employee rate for part of our honeymoon!
@Shannon: I’ve definitely sought out vendors who were willing to work with me as far as price and packages, it’s saved a lot so far!

And yes, we are still having a ceremony at the temple. Swavek’s parents are unable to attend however (something I should probably write about to clear up the double ceremony confusion), so we are having a second ceremony at Hotel 1000. I am a lucky girl I know :)

That is such a gorgeous hotel! FI and I JUST stayed there over the 4th of July holiday weekend for a friend’s wedding in Seattle and were ***so*** happy with it. The corner “grand deluxe” or whatever rooms are enormous, and the tub was amazing. They actually have a bubble bath and bath bomb menu for you there as well (though they’re not complimentary — you might want to just bring your own!). Also, the spa services were great — we each had pedicures and were very pleased.

So classy and modern! I love your venue. Makes me want to throw on a sleek black dress and strappy heels in your honor :)

Hotel 1000 is excellent! My two best friends and I stayed the night before the wedding, and my husband and I stayed the night after the wedding. The suites were gorgeous, the tub is as cool as everyone says, and the staff were wonderful. You’ll have an awesome even there!

I’ve seen wedding pictures at this hotel and they looked so fabulous! The photographer was GH Kim photography, you should check them out to get ideas for picture ideas.

@Miss Avocado: So you’re double ceremony just inspired me to have one too since I was torn between a church in my original hometown or a venue where we live now where all of our friends could attend…. so we’ll have the big wedding here and then a small, intimate ceremony later on in the church I grew up in. Yeah for double ceremonies!

@Amy H.: I might just have to find out about having a bubble bath drawn for us when we arrive in ours suite that night! I think the free room we get is one of the corner ones.
@mamamiya: I love GH Kim, I’ll have to do a little bit more browsing through their site to see if I can find a wedding at Hotel 1000.
@Shannon: It’s a little bit of added planning stress, but you will get to wear your dress twice, and no one ever complained about that.
