More Makeup Talk

July 11th, 2008 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Sundae

A few people have asked for details on the makeup used in my last trial, and I honestly don’t have much information. I’ll definitely find out more about what was used, but in the meantime I can tell you about two of the products that were so great I bought them on the spot (I am such a sucker for beauty products!)

When I told Marla that I almost always wear a little liner but still wanted my eyes to look relatively bright (I always wind up looking like a raccoon with darker eye shadows) she brought out Trish McEvoy Base Essentials:May I just say, holy crap. I am one of those people who never seems to “hold up” well. You know, the people at the gym who look adorable in their matching outfits, who run for an hour on the treadmill with a full face of makeup and never break a sweat? I am completely fascinated and in awe of those people. I am the exact opposite. Things are always smudging and smearing for me…my eyeshadow always creases, eyeliner winds up where it isn’t ever supposed to be, etc. So this product is my new best friend (and you just watch, while I am typing this they will discontinue it. That’s how my luck usually works).

You put it on underneath your eyeshadow, eyeliner, anything that goes on your eyelids. It looks like a concealer wand so it comes out creamy, but you dab a few dots on and blend it in with a brush and it turns into a powdery consistency. I am wearing it right now without a dab of eyeshadow over it, so wearing it by itself is also an option. But I swear to you, nothing you apply over it moves anywhere. And, please hold onto your seats for this part, it’s WATERPROOF! I wonder if I could slather my whole face in it on our wedding day? Possibly.

The other product I bought was Laura Mercier lip stain in shy pink (the picture isn’t the shy pink color). Marla lightly lined my lips, then put on the lip stain, and a slightly tinted gloss over it because I am a freak about my lips feeling dry. I can report that it stayed on all day. Apparently with the combination of stain and gloss, even when the gloss wears off the stain stays put. Then you can just reapply a little more gloss and you’re good to go! Ah, the joys of a good makeup trial.

Did you become addicted to any new products during your trials? If so, do share!

I too am running to the store ASAP to get the Eye Base stuff - what you said about your make-up woes, are my make-up woes.
Thank you so much for sharing :)

Hi! I just bought the Trish McEvoy base this past weekend and you said it should come out creamy…. It’s weird but when I take the wand out of the tube, there’s not much cream on it and looking into the tube, it almost seems like it’s nearly dried up. Is this normal? I guess I was expecting it to have a more liquid texture. The good news is that I dab it on my eyes and it does work, I just wonder if I got a bad tube.

Hey Missy - the tube does kind of look like that inside, but when it comes out on my wand it looks a lot like concealer. Its just lighter and more airy…hopefully that makes sense! I am guessing you didn’t get a bad tube, but I suppose you could always take it back to the counter to make sure. Hope that helps ;)

Love the Eye Base. Wearing it now. It is a bit, er, dry looking coming out of the tube. But the real test is can you smear it about on your eyelid? You don’t want to tug, but a gentle swipe should do it.

Missy says:

Oh it definitely isn’t too hard to smear. I feel much better now, thank you!
(I got the crystal one, it’s so nice for summer.) =)
