Party Time!

July 11th, 2008 @ 3:54 pm by Mrs. Canary

This little Canary is getting very excited (and pretty wiped!) at the same time. Yesterday, it finally dawned on me as we were driving to pick up our first wedding guest (and bridesmaid) from the airport, that the wedding is indeed around the corner.

I was a little anxious to have the bachelorette party so close to the wedding date, but am now very grateful for some obligatory rest and relaxation. I have been sleeping very soundly every night, not because life has been stress-free, but because I am just so darn tired from thinking and planning the wedding during the day! I pass out the minute my head hits the pillow.

And this afternoon… me and 9 of my pals and cousins are headed to Asbury Park and Ocean Grove, New Jersey for some fun in the sun, all-night dance parties, and fruity girl drinks. I want to sun and catch up on mindless (non-wedding related!) reading and get a sweet tan before the big day. I made sure to get a bandeau top swimsuit just so I wouldn’t get tan lines. ;) I am always a forward thinking bird!

More details and probably very embarrassing photos when I return! In the meantime, any good activity suggestions for this part of Jersey? It’ll be my second time there, but I’m always up for trying new things.

Have a great weekend everyone!

SUNSCREEENNN!!!!!!!
Tan - nice.
Burned - oowww - makeup can only cover so much redness. And Badly burned? Peeling looks gross and thats just all there is to it!!
Be a smart bee when in the sun! Err on the side of caution Ms Canary so you don’t look like a Cardinal!! =)

and of course - lots of pictures!!

ms. c, my fiance and i met at asbury park lanes, the vintage bowling alley. bands play there now. might not be the best place for a bachelorette party, but has such a cool, retro, punky vibe. for afternoon brunch and ice cream, you should head to nagle’s apothecary cafe. delicious!

OMG!! I grew up there!! Well, actually, I grew up in Rumson…but we went to the beach clubs in Sea Bright! Of course, when I lived there, Asbury Park was the pits but Ocean Grove is soooooo lovely.

Make sure you get a hot dog from the Windmill!!

Fun fun!!

i live in asbury. i’m not such a big partier, so i don’t get out that much on the scene (anymore). i agree with hops… the asbury lanes would be a great spot to hit for the scenester-y scene. if you’re into it. it’s supercute and retro. and where else can one watch a band while rockers bowl to the left and right?

there are 2 new spaces that opened up in convention hall. one’s an irish pub - that’s inside. along the east and south edges of the fabulous old bldg, there’s a place called beach bar. it’s a really chill environment, where you’re fully outside just raised up a bit from the sand and overlooking the ocean - which is completely breathtaking at night. they have a very chic look with comfy couches and even beds set up scattered. i visited in the eve just to take in the views. there was a dj spinning typical house-y lounge tunes. i can’t vouch if there’s a crowd at night though. oh yeah, there’s also the new spot in the old howard johnson’s on the boardwalk. it’s owned by tim mccloone. i saw it from the outside. they made the upstairs a club. i think it’s called the supper club. the sad thing is that no matter how cool and progressive the places are, in the best possible beachfront surroundings, the crowds still don’t rival any of the cheesier, typical dirty jerz spots. enjoy. hope this helps and it’s not too late.

I live in Belmar, and I totally heart Ocean Grove! Let’s see, things to do in the area…

If you like food:
Vivas in Belmar is devine! (pricey, but so worth it). Ditto Casa Solar in Belmar. I also like Clementines in Avon, and Moonstruck (I think that is the right name, it’s Moon-something) in Asbury Park.

If you like going out:
Bar Anticipation in Belmar/Lake Como is considered by many to be *the* place to be in the summer. The Stony Pony in Asbury is good for music, mostly, but it can be a bit rough there, I think. D’Jais in Belmar is not so much my scene, but also very popular.

If you like shopping:
There is a main street with a few good boutiques in Spring Lake. The Grove in Shrewsbury has good chain stores (Jcrew, Anthro, Banana). Red Bank is awesome for both shopping and some good food (and easy to combine with a trip to the Grove).

If you have any more specific things you think you might want to do, I can certainly offer more suggestions! Have a great trip!

Actually I live right by Asbury Park, and it has totally (http://www.cityofasburypark.com/) had a wonderful facelift over the years! There are some awesome places to eat… Bistro Ole’ (http://www.bistroole.com/) has some great Latin food and it’s BYOB! The owner usually comes around to greet everyone AND maybe randomly dances with the customers (as per my mother at one time) because he’s fabulous! Try Cookman Ave, Asbury Park and their amazing new restaurants (http://www.asburyboardwalk.com/dining1.htm). Belmar (fun nightlife) // Red Bank (VERY FUN nightlife) // Long Branch (Pier Village) are always fun places. Lots of NJ pride I know… I love it.
