About Mrs. Cherry Pie

Ride’em, Cowgirl

July 12th, 2008 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Cherry Pie

I have got waaaayy too much pie on my plate. Between conferences, work, wedding and, well… life, I just haven’t had a still second to my day to sit down and write. I am a major stress cadet when I don’t feel organized, and my lack of blogging is starting to make me feel CRAZY. I have so much to write about!

Unfortunately, my weekends (when I do the most writing) have been eaten up more and more by longer and longer bike rides– Mr. Cherry Pie and I have been training for a big event.

Here we are on last Sunday’s 60-mile ride through the Snoqualmie valley, just inside North Bend:

It was only last year in late June that I purchased my road bike, a bright “don’t hit me” green, Kona Jane the Snake. Mr. Cherry Pie and I first rode the 3,500 feet up Glacier’s Going to the Sun Road that July, then 50 miles in Bellingham’s Tour de Whatcom. It’s been my goal for the last year to do the best-known ride around.

Finally, this weekend, I’ll realize that goal. Mr. Cherry Pie and I will ride the 204-mile, two-day, Seattle to Portland (STP) for the first time. Hurrah!

I feel woefully underprepared, but having two marathons, a half-century, and a half-marathon under my belt makes me think that this will just be a matter of staying on the saddle.

So, when I get back, you have much to look forward to– all that I have been planning to write about:

- My first dress fitting (yesterday!) after my dress nearly disappeared!
- Writing our ceremony from scratch!
- Starting a series of crafty projects for ceremony details!
- Bridesmaids gifts!
- My custom wedding band (just arrived yesterday)!
- Our invitations are finally here!

Wish me luck, and see you on the flip side!

That’s so cool, Miss CP. My guy owns the Kona Jake and loves it. That’s pretty awesome you’ve picked this up. I had no idea you did the Tour de Whatcom. Next thing you know you’ll be part of a Ski to Sea team. :)

Love the cherry pie pics!

I am MAJORLY impressed. You guys are hardcore!! Can’t wait to hear about the details - riding, wedding, and otherwise.

(BTW, I hope you mean a quarter-century and not a half-century… otherwise I’m scared that you have some amazing Fountain of Youth secrets. :-D )

ok awesome bike ride and all but I am SO JEALOUS that you were in front of Twin Peaks’ “Double R” diner!!!! That program was my first TV show crush. I couldn’t get enough and was a freak for anything “peaks.” Someday I hope to visit that very diner and eat some famous Peaks pie.

Good luck with your ride!

So cool Ms Cherry Pie! I’ve just started getting back into cycling and thinking about doing a century ride in a few months. The Seattle to Portland ride sounds awesome — have a great time!

Angel…funny you should mention Ski to Sea. We were part of a team this year. I did the road bike leg and Miss Cherry Pie was the runner. Fun race!

@Angel: Yep! We did Ski to Sea this year a few weeks after my half marathon in Eugene! :)

@GorgesViola: Oh, I mean a half-century — that’s bike slang for a 50 mile ride. Not 50 years. ;)

We’re half done tonight and it was a blast so far!

Since I live in Seattle I notice your posts a little more, and this is sort of embarrassing, but just last week I wondered where you were. Then I thought to myself, “I bet Miss CP is riding the STP.” : ) I’m actually typing this as my fiancé, two groomsmen and my sisters (aka bridesmaids) are lying on the floor rehashing which hill was the hardest.

I bought a bike last June with the idea of riding this year as well, but that plan got sort of derailed with some unexpected surgery and a wedding. I drove their support vehicle this weekend and grew up around the half way mark, so I did a lot of cooking, driving and shuttling back and forth. It’s even fun to watch all the riders…

Congratulations - good for you!

Very bizzare….I have done exactly the same distance events you listed in the order you listed them. (I am trying to decide if I will do marathon #3 in the fall and #2 was Seattle). I admire your most recent endeavor. My FH loves riding his bike and I have done more with him, but I am not sure that I could ever go that far. You go girl!!
