House Numbers as Table Numbers

July 13th, 2008 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Gingerbread

When I saw this post about house numbers on Once Wed, I messaged Miss GB 2.0 right away. I loved this idea and as luck would have it, so did she. :) Thank goodness since we are quickly running out of time before the wedding and table numbers were the one thing we hadn’t settled on. House numbers will actually tie in with my Swedish mailbox that will serve as our cardbox!

I found some cute house numbers on etsy like this one by Funkifolkart.

Unfortunately, with the wedding right around the corner, I don’t have time to order anything online anymore. :( We went to a couple of antique stores hoping to score some old house numbers, but didn’t have any luck. We don’t have time to keep hunting so we went to Restoration Hardware and bought some there.

Is anyone else thinking of using house numbers as their table numbers? Any cute ideas about how to display them?

I’m not sure what our table setup will be yet, but if we do table numbers this is a great option!

We’re planning on doing this, too, Miss GB, and I was so excited to see that post on Once Wed the other day as well! We haven’t started searching yet but are hoping to find a range of different kinds of numbers at hardware stores, and maybe we can vintage-them-up with spraypaint…. we also might mount them on foam core or something else that is covered with a patterned printout, to make the number stand out with the pattern as a backdrop.

if you can tell me a local place around here, i can try and pick some up for you! do you think any of those antique or houseware stores in Hillcrest would have any?

4.
T says:

aw, nevermind! looks like you got some. maybe you could spraypaint them with some varnish or something to give them a weathered look?

I love this idea because your wedding is a housewarming of sorts as well - so it all ties in together! Good thinkin’!

This is such a great idea. Another great place to look would be salvage shops. I see old numbers at those places all the time.

I saw someone paint the house numbers and mount them inside picture frames without glass, and it looked great. They had a background of some sort..

rebecca says:

How would you mount these if you didn’t want to lean them on a flower arrangement?

Kathy says:

I’m sorry, (if you meant me, rebecca) I wasn’t very clear was I. I tried to find the picture..I thought it was on here I saw it…anyway, you just take apart the picture frame, cover the back of it with something, you could use wrapping paper or material, etc, and then either glue or screw the house number on it, and put it back in the frame. they would stand on their own then. I’ll keep looking.

@Kathy: This is a fantastic idea! Thanks for commenting. I just called my mom to ask her to buy some frames and I’ll find some printed paper myself. Yay!

This idea is soooo cute. And plus, have I mentioned that I LOVE your mailbox idea?? When you posted that, I spent a DAY looking at mailboxes online.. until finally Mr. BG reminded me that, uh, I had already bought two card boxes.. :)

i do not read oncewed but i was in home depot a month ago and was seriously considering it - but the price for each number for $4. i will have probably 20 tables (still calculating) so that is way WAY more than i wanted to spend on table numbers.

LaborDayBride says:

Yeah! I am doing this idea too! I also so the pic you posted above and that is where I got the idea. I was planning on home depot/lowes as well… I htink I will just lean them against a vase.

I adore this idea! It’s so creative but so simple! It is going to be absolutely gorgeous!

Karen says:

I’m with bearbride; nice idea but those Restoration Hardware numbers are $10 a pop. I have better things to spend $$ on. Very cute though. Can’t wait to see pics!

Miss Gingerbread says:

@Karen: Fortunately, we only have 5 tables, but it’s still more than I would like to spend. Unfortunately, I have less than a week left until the wedding, so I don’t have time to hit flea markets and thrift stores, but I strongly encourage others who like this idea to do so! Michael’s or other craft stores might even have wooden numbers that can be painted.
