Inches Off the Coconut!

July 14th, 2008 @ 11:32 am by Mrs. Coconut

For those brides-to-be looking for some inspiration, here’s an update from my last fitness post! To recap: I’ve been a regular gym-goer for the last 5 years, but for the wedding I really wanted to get into excellent shape! So, for the past 7 weeks I’ve been working out 5 days a week and generally watching what I eat. (**On Fridays, I’ve been doing the StairMaster, a timeless classic that really kicks my booty, literally! If you haven’t tried it in a while, jump back on, your thighs will thank you!)

The scale has only moved about 5 lbs, but the inches have moved INCREDIBLY! I’ve read a ton of magazines and they always say to forget about the scale and just take your measurements, and boy they weren’t kidding!

Bust: 38″ (5/25/08) to 36″ (7/8/08)
Waist: 30″ to 29″
Hips: 40.75″ to 39.5″
Thigh: 25″ to 22″

For all you non-math majors, that’s 3″ off my thighs!!! Awwww yeah.

(Me & Sister Coconut back in May 2008 - notice the bulge?)

(Mr. Coconut and I on July 4, 2008.)

For those keeping track of my dress fitting progress - Sister Coconut came over a couple of weeks before her wedding and I put on the dress. I’d been having nightmares about it not fitting. Well, it fits and zips ALL the way up! It’s still a little tiiight, but progress has been made!!! Wahoo!

So, give me an update on ya’ll! How ya doing with the exercise?

You look great! I’m so envious! I’m trying to shed a few inches myself. I ordered my gown true to size at the time of fitting, I knew I was going to loose some weight… so far 5 lbs, but the sample was a little tight in the hips, and loose in the bust. I’ve been really lax for the last month, and have to get back on track.

Congrats, your progress is really impressive!

We just (finally!) got Wii Fit, so we’re both going to start half an hour a day of that and go from there. I’m also challenging a friend to the Hundred PushUp training program. :D

OMG thank you for your post! I am in a similar situation - dress not fitting properly - so have been on a similar quest to eat better and work out like crazy!
Congrats on the progress - update us again soon!

You look beautiful. I need to know what you are doing on the stair master. What setting and for how long? My thighs will thank you :)

You look so great Miss C! Congratulations on workin on your fitness! The Peng lost NO WEIGHT for the wedding. Sick. I did up my gym regimen, and did feel better though :) So I think it helped, but the scale did not budge more than 3-5 lbs in one year hee hee.

perfect timing! i’ve got my first fitting next weekend and am in a final push to get a bit leaner before the alterations are made. the dress was ordered ages ago one size down (i was close to the measurements for the smaller size and had months to trim up). after much anxiety about the dress not fitting, when it came in, I was able to zip it all the way up no problem. woo hoo!

now, it’s the final stretch before alterations… i whole-heartedly endorse the measurement approach. after an initial drop, the scale did.not.move for months, even though i was slowly shrinking in measurements. if i had not been keeping my weekly measurements in a notebook, i’m sure i would have been discouraged and given up. keeping track really helped and it is great to look back every so often to the beginning of the journal and see how much progress has been made.

btw, you look fabulous coconut!

@shannamt: I actually pick the “fat burner” on level 10! Good luck, keep me posted!

@Mrs. Penguin: Whatevs. You ROCKED that dress! ;) You’re right though, the scale hasn’t moved for me either, but I feel great!

don’t know about you but i HATE that the boobs are always the first to go! when i diet, i usually lose an inch at the bust and then 1/4″ (yes i claim that) at the waist, and i already have tiny boobage! i just basically become more and more like a stick. grr!

good job with your progress though, coconut! looking sexy there on 4th of july!

Coconut, I definitely noticed inches before lbs for myself too.

@Miss Green Tea: Oddly enough, I’ve lost more than 10lbs and my boobs are still the same size! I really wouldn’t mind it if they’d shrink either.

Good on you! I’m so glad that I’ve made exercising regularly and eating a balanced diet (yuck, I sound like an informercial) a part of my lifestyle years ago before any thoughts of fitting into THE dress ever crossed my mind. My first dress fitting is tomorrow and I feel all calm about it (but I’ll let you know how it goes). For everyone out there that still has some time, get on the exercise bandwagon. Not only will it help you reach your target, it’s an awesome outlet for all the stress you encounter during wedding prep.
