Juxtapositioning with Rachel Hadiashar

July 14th, 2008 @ 12:28 pm by Mrs. Toucan

I know I haven’t posted any wedding pictures, I’m waiting to get all the proofs back before I go into full recap mode. But since you’ve all been waiting so patiently, I wanted to share a few images of me in my wedding dress!

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity of doing a “Day After” shoot with Rachel Hadiashar from MERGE weddings. It wasn’t technically the day after, but I don’t like calling it a “Trash the Dress” shoot because that implies that the dress was trashed or ruined. For a limited time, Rachel was offering this type of shoot free of charge to work on a little project she called “Juxtaposition,” which features real brides in their wedding dresses in interesting locations around Boston. I, of course, jumped at the opportunity to participate, and it was SO. MUCH. FUN!

Rachel just posted a few teaser pictures on her site:

And one in my qipao with Mr. Toucan:

I think I almost died.

I’m so excited to see the rest of them!

Are any of you planning to do a “Day After” session?

Where were you taking photos in Boston? Climbing up Beacon Hill in a wedding gown would make for an amazing shot! :-)

@MagPie518: The pictures above are in random spots in Chinatown. I took a lot of other shots at another location, but I’ll wait to reveal that when I get those pictures back. :)

That first shot is killer. How did you find out about this free opportunity? Dang, I need to get involved in this free wedding photography thing that’s going on.

I’m doing a day after session that is really a “week after” session. No idea whether it will turn into a TTD or not. My dress is so pretty…..

@Miss Avocado: Rachel posted in her blog about the free bridal sessions a while back ago. Lots of newer photographers (and even seasoned ones like Rachel, who haven’t done very many day-afters) will do these types of sessions for free.

Glad you liked them so much! More coming soon when I am out from under a killer backlog of weddings and sessions. About the “free photography” thing — it’s not really free, but a trade for the women who would wear their dresses in surprising locations. It’s a personal book project I have been excited to do for awhile now, and since my boudoir girls have been so amazing, a lot of them make up the base core of my subjects for this project.

I’ll be putting together a book with photos from the sessions at the end of the year - the one photo I loved the most from each session, and the one the bride liked the most. I think it’s going to be super interesting to compare what she liked and what I liked. Sometimes they’ll be similar and sometimes totally different!
