About Mrs. Tiramisu

For the OOT’ers

July 16th, 2008 @ 9:29 am by Mrs. Tiramisu

The other night on Miss Gingerbread’s BeeTV broadcast, a question was posed to us Bees with only a few days left until our weddings: “What did you want to do that you just didn’t get done?” I couldn’t really think of anything at the time, which I I took as a pretty awesome sign that I’ve actually finished up almost all of the projects that I wanted to do. Later on though, I realized that part of me does wish we were doing more for out of town baskets. I had big dreams (I never actually considered spending that much, don’t worry!), and saw some drool-worthy examples out there, but with around 50 parties of out-of-towners, it just wasn’t feasible to do much.

Mr. T and I decided that the most important things were to make our guests feel welcome, and to make their visit as easy as possible by providing them with all the important information. So, without further ado, I give you our very pared down welcome baskets folders.

Welcome to Maine, here’s a folder!Let’s see, what do we have here?

A guidebook (free)! A map (free)! A postcard (a hot twenty cents)!

A colorful invitation to our day-after brunch- we decided against mailing these, as our guests were already getting a separate “Friday Welcome Party” invite in the mail and we really thought it would be overkill. I Goccoed these, and it was so refreshing to use some colors that WERE NOT BLUE!

A little welcome card with lots of info.

A nice little note written by Mr. T.

The schedule for the weekend (thanks Miss Espresso for the use of your icon!).

A set of directions specific to each hotel (our guests are spread among six hotels). Everyone I showed these to was really impressed by these, but in all honesty it only took a couple of seconds longer than putting it all on one page.

So there you have it, I’m sure no one will be writing home about them (unless they use the postcard, hardy har har), but I hope it helps everyone to feel a little welcome and shows them how grateful we are that they have made the trek to Maine for our wedding.

And since there are three days before the wedding and I’ve still got too much to post about:

*bonus detail!*

Lest you think we aren’t going to be spoiling our guests (out-of-town and in-town alike) just a little, I give you, the ever-popular flip-flop portion of our favors- we’ve got 99 pairs of these for the reception:

I know most people get these for their guests for dancing, but we thought they were especially important in our case because there is a (rocky, hello it’s Maine) beach at our reception site and we want people to be able to explore it!

What are you doing for your out of town guests?

I work for a beer company, so our OOT baskets were actually buckets… beer buckets! You know, the kind you get at a restaurant when you order a bucket o beer?

Inside each bucket:
1 welcome card with ribbon
St. Louis tourist guidebook (free)
2 bottles of water
2 bottles of beer
2 bags of chips
2 candy canes (it was xmas time)
2 packets of hot cocoa
1 chocolate ‘pop’ in the shape of the St. Louis arch

They were about $6.00 a piece when they were completed.

I like your folder! It’s cute! I LOVE your orange and am very curious where you found it. I need an orange just like that for a project I’m doing!

hopefully we’ve got enough $ left in the budget to do OOT bags for the guests! But a folder with info is a great idea- I’d want to do something like that no matter what! Good idea, Tiramisu.

Quick question - how did you get these to your OOT guests? They’re all so pretty but noone ever describes how they are delivered to the guests!

Very cute, I LOVE the folder idea! Good Job, or GJ as my friends and I would say.
Also, I think the flip-flops for beach exploring is a WONDERFUL idea :)

Thanks!

@Lauren: It’s Albemarle Swash with a little Albemarle Demo mixed in.

@KateMW: I am pretty sure I found it on istockphoto.com … let me know if you can’t find it and I’ll try to hunt it down!

@Trebuchet: We are delivering them tomorrow to the hotels… we called ahead of time and all 6 were okay with it. One said that if we dropped them off after the guests checked in and they had to bring it up to the room then it would be a $1 charge each.

We are doing bags with 2 bottles of water, 2 packages of trail mix and 2 fruit leathers (like fruit roll-ups) along with a weekend schedule and some brochures from the Boulder Bureau of Tourism.

Unrelated, but where in Maine are you getting married? I just got back from a week-long trip there. What a gorgeous state! I have been to all 50 now and it is in my top 3.

we used the albemarle swash as our fancy font on all our wedding stuff, and it is such a fun refreshing font! we also did a folded self printed brouchure, with our welcome letter on the front, schedule & map of our events inside, and a crossword puzzle of personal trivia on the back. we put everything in a brown kraft bag w a photo of us attached saying “thanks”:
2 bottles of water, 2 granola/ snack bars, box of raisins, jolly ranchers & chocolate in tulle, a visitors guide & historic paper from our city, a list of “recommended” things to do/ eat/ shop/ visit in the area (compiled by us), & a postcard. we got lots of complements on them… i also heard that some guests went & asked for an extra (which explains why there were none left over)!
