I Confess…

July 16th, 2008 @ 1:45 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

I’m cheating on my shower with our registries! I know it’s horrible, possibly tacky too, but I just can’t help myself. Knowing that my shower is this weekend, I keep checking our registries to see what has been purchased. It’s not about people buying us things, but more about the excitement that those hours spent we spent fidgeting with our registries are now starting to come together, and that Mr. H and I are REALLY getting hitched!

(Our Bed Bath and Beyond Registry)

I’ve always been the person who tries to figure out surprises before they happen. I keep telling myself, “well, at least I don’t know WHO bought me what.” The funniest part is, of the three people I’ve ‘fessed up to (Mom H, Mr. H and BM H), the only one who told me I was bad was my bridesmaid! I was sure that I’d have heard a lecture or two from Mom H and Mr. H.

Am I the only one cheating with my registries?  And do you always try to figure out surprises too?

I am a huge cheater! It makes my day to see that someone bought our salt and pepper shakers. And it’s not really a surprise, b/c you picked the gifts yourself. That’s how I rationalize it!

i was updating ours recently and it said someone had purchased 9 place settings so i called the store thinking it had to be a mistake. the woman said “nope! good news! someone bought you 9 sets!” I insisted that it had to be a mistake. Eventually she said “oh, yeah you’re right. It was a mistake. i’ll fix it.”

let down! haha

i do it all the time and i am not getting married until next year. i just LOVE looking at all the stuff we picked out, and it is exciting!

Natalia says:

Haha - I do the exact same thing. I think I was checking every few hours during the days before my showers! I am also guilty of registry stalking (looking at all my friends’ registries to see if they have something on there I should put on mine!

I did it all the time :)

You have no idea. As a kid I was a master gift unwrapper. I’m talking opening one end of a wrapped gift, pulling it out and sliding it back in with no one ever knowing (or so I thought). Now I like surprises more but I still check our registry almost every day. My sister/MOH gets mad at me but I can’t seem to stop!

Kara says:

Guilty here too — but the ironic thing is that even though I checked our Crate & Barrel and Honeyfund registries daily in the days leading up to the shower, I got really mad when Honeyfund started sending e-notifications that something had been purchased! I guess I just liked the excitement of opening our Honeyfund webpage and seeing “Fulfilled.” Um, yeah. Psycho bride moment. :)

Patty says:

Oh totally! I peeked constantly right up to the day before the wedding. It totally didn’t ruin anything for me, as some people “added” items to their gifts that were cute and total surprises. It won’t take any of the fun out of unwrapping them, promise.

No - it is a sickness and you are not alone!

I too am a total registry stalker… It actually helped us because we found out that part of our luggage was being discontinued so we were able to change it before someone bought the other part.

11.
Shawn says:

Um…have you tried Thank You Note Manager?
Yeah, THAT changes everything.

I’m a registry stalker too! We need a WB support group…

Amy says:

I’ve started checking mine daily now that the shower invites have been out for a few weeks and the shower is coming up…I can’t help it! I was the kid that would unwrap Christmas gifts and re-wrap them, or snoop through the house and find my gifts, just so that I’d know. But to me, it never ruined actually GETTING the gifts, I just don’t know why!

I totally do this! I just blogged about it not too long ago! http://calioc.blogspot.com/2008/07/it-is-better-to-give.html

I think that Macy’s is the worst because you can see who bought it and when!!

Linda says:

I stalked my registry before my shower too! Some people didn’t check stuff off so I was still surprised! I’m now stalking it for wedding pressies!

I can’t help it! I love checking my registry!

On a side note, Miss H, we have that Cuisinart electric fondue set, and it the MOST AWESOME THING EVER! It’s super easy to clean and it has this feature where the cord comes unattached from the pot really easily - for example, if someone trips over it, which I have never, ever done, the whole pot won’t come tumbling down!

Also, be aware that it gets hot really fast! When we have fondue, we generally are fiddling with the heat knob off and on all night. It’s not the biggest deal, and it could just be that Mr. Pants and I are dumb and haven’t figured out the heat settings, but you might find that handy to know.

Yay, registries!

Not only do I sneek a peek, but I also broke down and purchased a couple items. But I don’t think it counted, see we got $300 in gift cards (from the e-party) to the Bay and I noticed that the linens I loved were 30% off, and going quickly, so I copped that.

Jodi says:

You just reminded me to go peek at mine…… ;-P

beth says:

hehehe I am SOO guilty of this. But then I’m always like “No - I don’t check it, I want to be surprised!”
I just checked it about 5 minutes ago and discovered a few more things have been purchased! WOOHOO! The shower is in a few weeks, so hopefully I won’t be so crazy after that… :-D

@Miss Pineapple: that’s so sad!! I’d be totally let down.

My shower is in a couple of weeks so I’m pretty sure I’ll be doing the same thing pretty soon :)

hi, my name is michelle, and i’m a registry stalker…

guilty here as well, though the invites with the link to the website haven’t got out yet, so no activity so far. shower is next month and wedding invites go out next week, so there may be some action soon. :)

lunapark says:

My shower is this weekend as well and I’m checking those things daily (at least!). It’s constantly under the guise of “oh, I wonder if that thing I want a BBB is back in stock and I can add it to the registry…oh, I’ll just check the whole registry while I’m here!”.

I seriously think this might be an addiction…

23.
Jessica says:

this totally sounds like something I would do.

24.
Samantha says:

I’ve been doing the same thing, but only to see if anyone’s actually using them. I have a feeling the Registry cards in their invitations had been overlooked!

25.
Tiffany says:

Yep, I, too, am a registry stalker. And I thought I was being horribly tacky and silly to look, but I just cannot help it! My shower is less than 3 weeks away, and invitations went out just over a week ago. My mom even gave me that guilt trip line…”now, you aren’t going to go and check your registry online to see what you got, are you? That will spoil the fun!” Of course, my reply was “no! I want to be surprised!” I should have added…I want to be surprised by WHO got me the things I already know I got!!!
