About Mrs. Green Tea

The Legend of Zelda

July 16th, 2008 @ 5:34 pm by Mrs. Green Tea

So I may never know her real name, but I can’t let that keep me from making friends with my dress! She’s definitely a princess, which is hard for me to relate to, but I dig that she is well built, has character, and fights for a good cause. I shall call her, Zelda.

Zelda and I spent some quality time together this weekend as I was altering her to fit me. The BEST thing about having a dress I’m not in love with is that I don’t care so much about imperfections in the DIY alterations. With the MOH’s help yesterday, I put her on fully for the very first time. She still requires more minor adjustments, but here we are kicking it last night (try to picture us and the veil minus all the wrinkles, k?):

And here is me cracking up in my veil worn as a ’superhero cape’:

then realizing I’m better off not being a superhero:

The full bustle will be for the reception, and the half bustle will be for the ceremony, since I don’t like the super long train and it works better with the veil. The gorgeous veil is my something borrowed from my good friend who made it herself for her own wedding in 2005:

Though Zelda and I are not best friends, we still make an aiight team, no? I love the fact that I won’t have to think twice before jumping in mud if I so desire on my wedding day. I have Zelda to thank for that freedom. And we sing:

Getting to know you, getting to know all about you.
Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me.
Getting to know you, putting it my way,
But nicely,
You are precisely,
My cup of tea. *

* Lyrics from Getting To Know You (Oscar Hammerstein)

Honestly, it looks absolutely stunning on you! I don’t know you well enough to fit that with your personal style, so I can’t speak to it “fitting” you, but you look beautiful!

OMG!!!!!!! You rock in that dress. You look beautiful and cool. Ok - if you call that princess - Zelda works. Just don’t go thinking you are in a Disney’s Ariel-esq poofer! That dress is a bit edgy and fun. The back is awesome.

That dress wouldn’t be flattering on me… thats what i am telling myself so Im not jealous!! :)

you are beautiful and the dress is stunning!!!
The only thing is that you can tell you don’t realize how gorgeous you are in this dress from your posture. While I don’t think you need to *love* your dress (it is just a dress) you need to make sure you feel as great as you look.

I’m also planning a DIY bustle. What resources did you use to figure it out, or did you just wing it? It looks awesome, by the way!

VA VA VOOM!

I completely understand what it’s like for clothing to not be “you” - but serious, that dress looks stunning on you. Way to go, Zelda!

@hwong14: i had no resources, maybe i shoulda looked some up! i have no real experience doing alterations but i’ve always been the kind of girl who just figure things out along the way. i suppose it’s kinda gutsy with zelda being my wedding dress! :P

Please ask your friend if it would be possible to get directions on how to make the bead pattern in her veil!!! Wow!

Dear lord woman! You’re going to give someone a heart attack! When they first see you, they’ll be like, “OMG - she’s drop-dead gorgeous!” Then you’ll walk down the aisle and they’ll get an eye-full of that sparkly, blinged-out back and they’ll just plain drop dead.

@Betty: to my knowledge, there is no bead pattern. she hand dipped each bead in glue using tweezers, then placed on veil and let dry. she did an amazing job just kinda eyeballing as she goes!

You look (expletive) amazing! I’m so glad and I’m so glad that you’re getting to know your dress. I had to get to know mine, she was not my friend when she first arrived in our house.

You look stunning and not nearly as poofy as I thought you would, it’s actually quite a sleek dress. And the bustle is gorgeous!

Yay! I’m so pleased to see you in it!
