Flower Sneak Preview

July 17th, 2008 @ 7:00 pm by Mrs. Tiramisu

I stopped by my florist today to go over some last minute details and LOOK what I found:

Dark blue hydrangea, mini calla lilies, delphinium and freesia for my bouquet, light blue for the bridesmaids. The dark blue ones came from the Netherlands! Who knew! You wouldn’t know by the price.

My florist shows how well the table runner and bridesmaid dress fabric swatches coordinate!

More for the centerpieces (yellow ones not mine).

Bachelor buttons for the groomsmen!

Seeing the actual flowers made this all seem so real and so close! My florist is the lovely Ladyslipper Flower Shop in Gray, Maine. Poppy, the owner, is a family friend and she is quite the artist when it comes to flowers. I didn’t give her much direction, because honestly I have no clue when it comes to flowers, but I really feel like we are on the same page. She also showed me the beginnings of the adorable flower girl wands, which you all helped me to decide on. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together!

Our flower budget was not huge, but The Ladyslipper worked with us to make the most of it. We’ll be having a floral centerpiece on each of our twelve square 5’ tables (seating 8 guests), and a row of small floral centerpieces down the center of each of our six long 16’ rectangle tables (seating 16 guests). The square tables will have loads of seaglass and blue votive candles, and the long ones will have light blue dupioni silk fabric runners (I bought the fabric and the woman who did my dress alterations cut and hemmed it for next to nothing) and tall pillar candles. Here’s a little mock-up I did with our day-of wedding coordinator.

Square tables: drinking glass standing in for a 6″ floral centerpiece (mostly hydrangea), light blue runner standing in for plain white table cloth.

Long tables: drinking glasses standing in for small vases of wildflower-ish (another technical term) blue and white flowers.

I know it’s hard to tell from the pictures, but I hope it will all look nice, especially with all of the candlelight.

How are you decorating your tables? Will they all be the same or will you mix it up a bit like we did?

We want to mix it up for our tables too! I have so many ideas for centrepieces, it would be a shame to use just one.

PS. Is that astilbe in the background of the first picture? I have a flower crush on astilbe at the moment!!

Miss T, I’ve grown so excited for your wedding over the last few weeks of your posts! You are always so modest, and yet everything you do comes out perfectly lovely. You’ve been so great to read and I cannot wait to see how it all comes together.

The flowers look great and I must have missed your post about the wands but I think they are AWESOME!! But I’m curious — where did you get the sea glass? I might need to supplement my current sea glass collection (collected in Maine!) to fulfill my centerpiece vision! PS - My fiance grew up a few towns away from Gray!
