About Mrs. Hummingbird

I am a worst-case scenario girl. I prepare and prepare and always have a million contingency plans. I make jokes and act like a goof, but underneath all the happy trappings and wrappings, I am pretty much a big ball of nerves.

Having an outdoor wedding was definitely a major test of my sanity. As you readers might remember in the days leading up to the wedding, I was panicked about the weather. The historical forecast was promising in that it had only rained once on our wedding day in the previous seven years, but the current one was mocking me with promises of overcast skies and rain. And when I was awakened by a major lightning and thunderstorm approximately 12 hours before our ceremony was to begin, I’d be lying if I said that my interior monologue wasn’t riddled with profanities.

However, when I woke up the morning of, instead of feeling stricken with stress, I actually felt fine. In fact, I felt really good. I might not be able to change the weather, but I could change my attitude. It was out of my hands, so I might as well enjoy myself. Grey skies be damned! I was getting married that day!

It would definitely be hard to replicate without all my key ingredients, but my recipe for a perfect pre-wedding day includes:

1 fabulously yummy carrot muffin and glass of cranberry juice to calm a sore stomach.

z155213
Me wearing my lucky boxer shorts (they have martinis on them!) while enjoying my fabulous breakfast spread.

+ 1 uber prepared Matron of Honour.

z155214
Me and Erin during early preparations. In the two days leading up to the wedding, she accompanied me on countless wedding errands and helped me decorate the tent!

+ 1 very supportive friend and videographer to diplomatically pass along information from the home base.

z15521401
Kim (a.k.a. zombiebride) and I the night before while we watched DVDs and painted our toe nails.

+ 1 spin of Counting Crows’ August and Everything After on the car stereo on the way to the hairdresser (complete with Mr. Jones sing along!)

z15521402
If for some reason you missed out on 1993 entirely and don’t own this album, you must buy it!

+ 1 awesome hairdresser who can replicate your preferred wedding hair style, even after you leave the picture at home and after your hair accessory breaks in your lap mid hairdo!

Me midway through the hair process. My mom showed up at the salon during this stage and was genuinely afraid that I would walk down the aisle looking like Cousin It from The Addams Family.

The finished hairdo with fixed peacock feather hair clips. Thanks Christian!

+ 1 proud and nervous mom.

The two moms Hummingbird (Mr. Hum’s on the left and my mom on the right)

+ 1 funny and awesome Man of Honour who sings silly songs to calm the aforementioned nervous mom down.

z15521501

Me and Greg posing for the camera during prep. He made 56 individual chocolate cakes for us - how dedicated is that?

+ 1 Godmother who flew in the night before from Montreal so she could be there.

z15521502

My godmother Brenda with my mom prior to the ceremony. They have been friends since they were teenagers.

+ 1 future Stepsister-in-law makeup artist to cover up your allergy-induced rosacea attack.

z155216

The fabulous Miss Kelly who did me up pretty-like. Thanks Kelly!

+ 1 inbox full of reader and blogger emails wishing you well on your big day.

59 comments on my final post as a Miss! You guys are amazing!

+ 1 crazy group cheer as you head out the door to your wedding!

Counting Crows is not my favorite band, but I really do believe that August and Everything After is one of the best albums produced…ever.

(Isn’t it funny how all the comments so far has been about the album? ;-) )
