Withstanding a Flood of Tears

July 17th, 2008 @ 12:25 pm by Mrs. Cookie

I am a crier. When I see a sad movie I cry, when Mr. Cookie does something special for me I cry, when I get stressed I cry. I know that on our wedding day, the tears are going to be pouring. To avoid the Britney Spear’s “Lucky” cryface, I need make-up that will withstand a flood of tears!

I found this waterproof mascara from Boots at Target that I love for $7.99! My eyes are slightly sensitive to mascara, and this stuff doesn’t irritate my eyes nor make me want to scratch them out. SCORE!

But hive, I need your help in the eyeliner department. Last weekend I went to the MAC store for some eyeliner help, and the salesperson put a solid black liquid liner on me that stayed put, but it looked really unnatural.

I’m looking for a eyeliner that is brown, looks natural, and can last through tears. Any suggestions?

Revlon colourstay works for me (although I use the black, I’m sure the brown would withstand tears even better :) )

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner in Chocolate. It’s got a nice shimmer to it, doesn’t smudge and is water proof! Just bought me some yesterday and I looooooove it!

I didn’t cry on our wedding day! I had a meltdown a few days prior (my infant nephew was in the picu with menengitis), so I was all cried out.

Hmm, I guess that’s not very helpful.

Ditto Pomegranate! That’s what my makeup artist used on me on our day!

Benefit Cosmetics has a product called “she laq”. It’s an eye make up sealer. you put it over your eye, (and brow) makeup and everything stays put. works like a charm. here’s a link

http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/gp/product/B000G6O036/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&bcBrand=core&nodeID=APS&SR=sr2bc18go651gx31pi11ai11&ext_id=ps_ggl_SBUS/GXUS_Makeup_Eyes/Makeup_Eyes/#DESCRIPTION

(it’s also sold at sephora)

I triple Pomegranate - the Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner comes in a bunch of different colors - you have to try it out. I just wore it on a vacation to Vegas and even sweating in 100 degree heat it didn’t come off, and I can get pretty sweaty.

I haven’t tried it, but Bare Escentuals weather everything? let’s you take any of their colors and make them water-proof. I’ve also heard BB works well.

I like cream eyeliner, which I apply with a short stiff square cut brush that I got at MAC using the edge like this: —– but without gaps. I find that easier and faster than the fine pointed brush, though I do use that one to do the ends. I use clinique’s cream liner and it doesn’t budge, but I believe MAC has cream liners too so you can see which brand has a colour you like, though I haven’t tried the MAC.

I use Make Up For Ever. It’s Oprah recommended as well.

I use the Mary Kay kind. Its not labeled as water-proof but i apply mine pretty thinly and it stays put pretty well.

its what I normally wear so I have it on in just about every picture in my blog

MAC has a dark brown gel liner named dipdown. I can’t wear black eyeliner but this is dark enough to give the same effect.

I am trying MAC for the first time. I bought all my wedding makeup the other night…I got their creme pencil in “Engraved”…it’s waterproof and I really like it. Just as a side note, their lip stain is really good too…I bought it as well and it really stays put! Also, Smashbox as a great gel eyeliner that is waterproof.

I don’t have makeup advice, but I do have a story about wedding tears…. I really thought I was going to cry on my wedding day. I cry at everything. Happy, Sad, Sentimental… you name it. When the rehearsal came around and we were standing there hand in hand at the front of our church with only the wedding party and parents, I just couldn’t hold the tears in anymore, I think the stress/anxiety/reality had gotten to me. The tears were just pouring out. Happy tears of course. I was so embarrassed, but pretty much everyone knew this was just how I am. It was good to get the tears out then because on the day of the wedding, I didn’t cry at all…. an unbelievable feat for me. I think I had gotten it all out at the rehearsal.

make up forever has a pencil liner called “aqua eyes” - so good! AND urban decay has one called “24/7″ that i use on a daily bais that might do the trick for you as well! they both come in mulitple colors and i usually get them from sephora. :) good excuse to get some new eyeliners at least!

@Miss Pomegranate: Yes! This stuff is AMAZING! It’s also very easy to apply (you need a brush or tool to apply it).

I second Benefit’s She-laq!
It comes with a bunch of different applicators, you can put it over eyeliner, brows and even your mascara.
Put it on, let it dry, and nothings coming off without a makeup remover!
I’ve used this on a ton of brides and it’s never failed me.

I say go for the Bobbi Brown Gel eyeliner…it’s super easy to apply and you can adjust the thickness with the brush that goes with it. I love this eyeliner!

i use a drugstore brand, prestige waterproof eyeliner. it comes in a ton of colors, goes on smoothly and is under $5. more importantly, it doesn’t budge AT ALL. not even after running around vegas for 5 hrs for my friend’s bach party and rubbing my eyes every so often. i can’t even get it off with most eye makeup remover. the one that always works for me is clinique’s extremely gentle eye makeup remover.

i use stila smudge pot. i have heavy asian lids and nothing stayed on my eyes except this. it’s not as pricey as bobbi brown, does the same thing, and it lasts forever (i’m still on the same pot after 2 years). my friend swears by the she laq, so paired together (for extra protection, like if you rub your eyes when you cry), you should be set! good luck, and tell us what worked for you.

im totally going to try that boots mascara. i have sensitive eyes too and have trouble finding something good. i’ve been using cover girl’s professional mascara (non waterproof one) and it’s been great. doesn’t smudge, doesn’t irritate my eyes and the cost is low.
