If you are reading this post, then it means that Mr. Sweet Tea and I are enjoying a beautiful weekend in Vancouver, celebrating with Miss Gingerbread and Miss GB 2.0, or rather, the two MRS. Gingerbreads. And if you’re not… well, it looks like I am typing to myself!
While I would have gone to Vancouver just for the dim sum (mmm…), I am even more excited to be a part of two of my favorite ladies’ special day. The big question for Mr. ST and I was: what to get two of the coolest people we know for their wedding?
For their shower, we went off-registry to Anthropologie and bought the Gingerbreads a cookbook and the little apron and mitt you saw Miss Gingerbread wearing:
Miss Gingerbread secretly told me it was her favorite shower gift (ssh!), so I wasn’t sure we could top that for the wedding. What pressure!
While we’ll be buying an ‘official’ present for the ladies once we’re in Canada (we don’t want to deal with that pesky import tax), something was missing… we needed to bring something more.
Informational pamphlets from Equality California to inform their guests about Proposition 8, the proposed amendment that would ban same-sex marriage in California? Information that would help their other guests, most of them coming from California, educate themselves and others before the election? Why, yes! That would be perfect.
Finding said pamphlets was a bit of a challenge- as of Monday, it was still unclear whether Prop. 8 would definitely make the November ballot, so I think it was holding up the printing. I did, however, manage to find an informational sheet through friends at the San Diego LGBT Center that includes a pledge sheet, for people to state their commitment to voting NO on Prop. 8.
Now, if you’re lucky, you might soon be getting a little sneak peek of the Gingerbread festivities from yours truly. See you next week!
A recent poll published today in The San Francisco Chronicle showed the measure failing with 51% opposing the ban, 42% supporting the ban, and 7% undecided (I don’t know where the missing percent is).
